Housing in crisis, can Europe fix it? With Sebastiao Bugalho

Finding an affordable place to live has become one of the biggest challenges for young Europeans. In our first episode of The YEPP Show, we dive into the housing crisis: why it’s happening, how it’s affecting young people, and what can be done about it. 

 

Our EPP Group Press trainees kick things off by sharing their personal experiences. Later, they are joined by MEP Sebastião Bugalho, recently appointed to the Housing Committee, who brings his perspective as a young politician. He unpacks the root causes of the crisis, the situation in Portugal and Southern Europe, and how the EU and member states can work together on solutions.

EUROPE: practice what you preach.The absence of key European leaders at COP29 undermines progress at a time when decisive action is needed. Global emissions are at an all-time high, and we are on track to exceed the 1.5°C warming limit by 2035 if immediate action is not taken. This summit marks a checkpoint for nations to renew their commitments under the Paris Agreement. However, the absence of key European leaders signals a lack of urgency in the face of accelerating climate disasters. Just look at the recent flooding in Valencia and just before that in the rest of central Europe cars and people where floating through our capitals. When do we say, if not here, that this is the limit? YEPP believes European leadership is essential in the fight against climate change. So let’s demand accountability and real solutions and engagement from our European leaders to ensure an independent, strong and competitive Europe so we might have a chance to maintain our European way of life! youthepp europeanleadership
Yesterday, YEPP had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of young Austrians from jungeoevp to the European Parliament, hosted by our First Vice President and MEP sophia.kircher.It’s always inspiring to meet such engaged young people, passionate about European politics and YEPP’s mission. 🇩🇪Today in history: the fall of the Berlin Wall On November 9, 1989, the world witnessed the triumph of freedom over oppression and the restoration of sovereignty to millions.🇪🇺This historic moment strenghten Europe’s unity as never before, defending the principles of liberty, democracy, and individual rights.
Yesterday, YEPP’s roundtable on Advancing Sustainability through Innovation, co-hosted with microsoftbelux, provided a valuable opportunity to discuss Europe’s approach to fostering a competitive and sustainable future through smart, forward-looking solutions.We heard from YEPP President and MEP lidiafopereira, who outlined a timeline of pivotal parliamentary milestones in sustainability policy, and from YEPP Vice President and Dutch Carbon Consultants Director derekgroot, who shared his perspective on key challenges in the green transition. Participants engaged actively, posing insightful questions that enriched the discussion and made for an inspiring exchange.
Yesterday, YEPP had the privilege of connecting with the pasyouth Moldova delegation, alongside Siegfried Mureșan, eppgroup’s Vice President.We had the opportunity to explore the impressive efforts of these young leaders, from organising insightful info sessions to conducting door-to-door visits in support of the October 20th referendum on Moldova’s potential EU membership. The delegation had the opportunity to hear from MEP and YEPP First Vice President sophia.kircher, who addressed them via a video message. This meeting also provided an excellent opportunity to reaffirm YEPP’s ongoing commitment to Moldova, proudly standing with the youth who are driving change and shaping the future of their communities.
