This is the uncomfortable truth that seems to completely escape people on the left who want a magical narrative where one side is pure evil and the other pure good. The United States had elections in 1864 in the middle of the Civil War, with the former head of the Union army running against Lincoln.
Zelensky made himself an emergency king and is operating with no democratic mandate. He silenced anyone who opposed him. These are facts that have to be taken into account during the peace process.
I'm also deeply uncomfortable that the Europeans will be reimbursed for their commitments to Ukraine, but the United States won't be. Let me be exceedingly clear. Ukraine would not exist as a free country resisting the Russians if not for American money and arms. No one disputes this fact. Yet, will the Europeans be paid back, but not us?
