BE THE KILLER’S LONE SURVIVOR. 37 YEARS AGO, EVIL STEPPED INTO MY LIFE. IT WAS AUGUST 6TH, 1988. JANE BOROSKI WAS ON HER WAY HOME FROM THE CHESHIRE COUNTY FAIR WHEN SHE STOPPED TO GRAB A SODA AT THIS GAS STATION IN SWANSEA. SHE SAID THIS VEHICLE PULLED UP, PARKED NEXT TO ME, AND THE NEXT THING I KNOW, HE GETS OUT, WALKS AROUND THE BACK SIDE OF MY CAR, UP TO MY CAR DOOR AND OPENS IT AND TRIED TO TAKE ME OUT OF THE CAR. JANE FOUGHT BACK NOT JUST FOR HERSELF, BUT TO SAVE HER UNBORN BABY. SHE WAS SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT. NEXT THING I KNOW, HE TACKLED ME DOWN AND. AND WAS ON TOP OF ME ON THE GROUND AND STARTED STABBING ME. THE MAN STABBED HER 27 TIMES BEFORE WALKING BACK TO HIS CAR. I, I KNOW THAT HE LEFT. LEFT ME FOR DEAD. BUT JANE AND HER BABY SURVIVED. WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL, SHE CAME TO REALIZE THAT HER STORY WAS ALL OVER THE NEWS AND THAT SHE WAS LIKELY THE VICTIM OF A COLD BLOODED KILLER. AND HE HAS TO KNOW WHERE I LIVE. HE’S GOING TO WANT TO COME BACK AND GET ME. FROM 1978 TO 1987, SEVEN WOMEN WERE FOUND STABBED TO DEATH WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF ONE ANOTHER. CATHERINE MILLIKEN WAS FOUND IN OCTOBER 1978, IN NEW LONDON. THE REMAINS OF MARY ELIZABETH CRITCHLEY WERE FOUND IN AUGUST OF 81, IN UNITY. ELLEN FREED’S BODY WAS FOUND IN SEPTEMBER 1985, IN NEWPORT, IN A TEN DAY PERIOD IN APRIL OF 1986, THREE VICTIMS WERE FOUND DEAD, FIRST ON THE 15TH, LINDA MOORE WAS FOUND DEAD OF MORE THAN 20 STAB WOUNDS IN HER HOME IN WESTMINSTER, VERMONT. FOUR DAYS LATER, BERNIE’S SKELETAL REMAINS WERE FOUND OFF CAT HILL ROAD IN NEWPORT. AN AUTOPSY REVEALED SHE HAD BEEN STABBED TO DEATH. THEN SIX DAYS LATER, THE BODY OF EVA MORSE WAS FOUND IN WEST UNITY. SHE HAD ALSO BEEN FATALLY STABBED. AND IN MARCH OF 1987, BARBARA AGNEW WAS FOUND DEAD IN HARTLAND, VERMONT. THE CASES BECAME KNOWN AS THE CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY KILLINGS. INVESTIGATORS AT THE NEW HAMPSHIRE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE HAVE NEVER OFFICIALLY CONNECTED ALL THE MURDERS, BUT THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TRACK DOWN A SUSPECT FOR ALMOST 47 YEARS. DO YOU THINK THE KILLER COULD STILL BE OUT THERE? I’M NOT GOING TO COMMENT ON THAT THAT FURTHER. IT’S OUR IT’S OUR OBLIGATION. IT’S OUR DUTY TO BE INVESTIGATING EACH OF THESE CASES. A POSSIBLE BREAK IN THE COLD CASES CAME IN MAY OF 2024. INVESTIGATORS DESCENDED ON A NEWPORT HOME, EXECUTING A COURT AUTHORIZED SEARCH WARRANT. NEWS NINE INVESTIGATES HAS LEARNED THROUGH SOURCES THAT POSSIBLE EVIDENCE WAS REMOVED FROM THE HOME THAT DAY, AND THAT POLICE INTERVIEWED A PERSON WHO LIVES THERE. WE ALSO LEARNED THAT IT WASN’T THE FIRST TIME THAT THAT PERSON WAS QUESTIONED IN CONNECTION WITH AT LEAST ONE OF THE MURDERS, BUT WE ALSO KNOW THAT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN CHARGED WITH ANY CRIME. GETTING THAT SEARCH WARRANT ABSOLUTELY GAVE ME HOPE THAT THEY ARE INVESTIGATING THESE CASES MORE. I STILL FEEL LIKE THEY COULD DO MORE. A LOT OF THE. INVESTIGATIVE ACTIVITY THAT WE ARE ENGAGED IN IS NOT VISIBLE TO THE PUBLIC. JANE SAYS FOR MANY YEARS, SHE LIVED WITH THE FEAR THAT THE KILLER WOULD COME BACK FOR HER. BUT NOW THE STAB WOUNDS HERE, SHE CARRIES HER SCARS AS A BADGE OF HONOR. I SURVIVED HIM AND THAT’S SOMETHING HE CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY FROM ME. I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. DID HE FOLLOW ME THERE? WAS HE SITTING THERE WATCHING ME? YOU KNOW, IT’S. IT’S. WHAT MADE HIM SO EVIL. THERE WAS KATHERINE UNDERWOOD REPORTING. WE HAVE MUCH MORE ON THE CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY KILLINGS ON WMUR.COM. 'Evil stepped into my life': Lone known survivor of suspected serial killer shares story

Nearly five decades after the stabbing deaths, the search for the killer continues

Jane Boroski was on her way home from the Cheshire County Fair on Aug. 6, 1988, when she stopped to grab a soda at a gas station in Swanzey, New Hampshire. She soon found herself fighting for her life. "Thirty-seven years ago, evil stepped into my life," Boroski said.Boroski says she believes she was almost killed by a serial killer."This vehicle pulled up, parked next to me," she said. "And next thing I know, he gets out, walks around the back side of my car, up to my car door and opens it and tried to take me out of the car." Boroski fought back, not just for herself, but to save her unborn baby. She was seven months pregnant. "And next thing I know, he tackled me down and was on top of me on the ground and started stabbing me," she said. The man stabbed her 27 times before walking back to his car."I know that he left me for dead," Boroski said. But Boroski and her baby survived. While in the hospital, she came to realize that her story was all over the news and that she was likely the victim of a cold-blooded killer. "He has to know where I live," she recalled herself thinking. "He's going to want to come back and get me." From 1978 to 1987, seven women were found stabbed to death within close proximity of one another. Catherine Millican was found in October 1978 in New London. The remains of Mary Elizabeth Critchley were found in August 1981 in Unity. Ellen Fried's body was found in September 1985 in Newport. In a 10-day period in April 1986, three victims were found dead. First, on April 15, Lynda Moore was found dead with more than 20 stab wounds in her home in Westminster, Vermont. Four days later, Bernie Courtemanche's remains were found off Cat Hole Road in Newport. An autopsy revealed she had been stabbed to death. Then, six days later, the body of Eva Morse was found in West Unity. She had also been fatally stabbed. And in March 1987, Barbara Agnew was found dead in Hartland, Vermont. The cases became known as the Connecticut River Valley killings. Sister station WMUR learned through sources that possible evidence was removed from the home that day and that police interviewed a person who lives there. It wasn't the first time that the person was questioned in connection with at least one of the killings, but that person has not been charged with a crime. (upbeat music) - Hi, my name is Christophe Pourny, welcome to my studio in Brooklyn, New York. And today I'm gonna show you some tricks and tips to take care of or your leather furniture. So here are a couple of household products that I like to use for maintaining and taking care of leather. You will dump your rag with a mix of half white vinegar, half water and when you apply it on your leather it's gonna be very light. Do not insist. You're not rubbing anything off. You are not trying to spot cleaning. For stains, ink stains or any kind of stains, water-based, I like rubbing alcohol. A little bit of rubbing alcohol on your rag and you may remove a lot of imperfection, a lot of dark stains with rubbing alcohol. When you have an oil stain or any greasy residue on your leather, a very good thing is to cover it with baby powder and let it overnight. It will absorb the grease, the oil and leave you a clean leather underneath. Oh, it's great for leather to age and to show patina, a lot of people actually liked this look but that doesn't prevent you from time to time to take care of and moisturize your leather. So these with a good leather cream, as I said, or some kind of cleaning milk, you take a small amount on a rag and you just apply. I am not getting rid of the patina of the leather but you can see at the same time that I give it back some life. I can really see a difference between what I treated and moisturized here compared to the dryness of this part. Well, thank you so much for visiting the studio. Keep your furniture beautiful and don't forget to subscribe to House Beautiful.

Whether you're moving into your first home or you're upgrading older pieces, it's always a smart idea to time your furniture purchases to the various sale seasons throughout the year. While some brands have random sales here and there, most of them take advantage of holidays and seasonal opportunities to offer major discounts for their customers. Since many retailers follow an annual sale schedule that rarely varies, it can be extremely helpful to know what time of year different types of furniture will be discounted. Above video: How to clean leather so it lasts forever“Pieces like sofas, beds and dining tables tend to be higher-ticket items, making them ideal for sale pricing and free shipping incentives,” interior stylist Abby Pendergrast says. “However, I also recommend having a clear list or idea of exactly what you’re looking for before shopping sales to avoid purchasing items you don’t truly want or need just because they’re discounted.” For smaller items like decor and pillows, “sales are less significant since these tend to be lower-priced and more impulsive purchases. To avoid unnecessary buys, keep an ongoing list on your phone so that when a sale happens, you're prepared to shop with intention,” Pendergrast says. Ahead, check out this complete list of when you can save the most on home purchases throughout the year. January and February At the start of the year, many stores offer deals you can’t pass up. “Three-day weekend holidays tend to offer great sales on home items,” Pendergrast says. “You can also find great deals in January after the holiday season, as many retailers aim to offload old inventory to make room for new merchandise for the new year.” During these months, major furniture sales happen, especially during Presidents' Day weekend. What’s more, many stores like Anthropologie and West Elm offer anywhere from 30 to 60 percent off and some may even often provide free delivery deals. March and April St. Patrick’s Day in March isn't usually a major sale holiday, though some home stores may run pop-up spring sales. However, in late April (though occasionally it will run in early May), Wayfair holds its own version of Black Friday called "Way Day" and offers major savings on home furniture and decor pieces. Furniture such as dining tables and chairs, couches, mattresses, and desks are sold at a discounted rate.MayIn May, you'll see home brands running extended sales in the lead-up to Memorial Day weekend. The holiday marks the beginning of summer and comes with a plethora of sales on furniture for your entire house: Bedding, couches, dining room furniture, appliances, and even outdoor patio pieces. June–August Pendergrast says early summer is actually the perfect time of year to buy your holiday decor—it may be last year's stuff, but you'll find it at a huge discount. And once the Fourth of July rolls around, even more sales commence with discounted prices on bedroom, living room, kitchen, and outdoor furniture. July is also when Amazon holds one of their biannual Prime Big Deal Days where consumers can shop for furniture and home pieces such as bed frames, dressers, mattresses, and couches at a discounted price with free two-day shipping. You can usually see discounts of up to 70 percent off on furniture during Prime Big Deal Days. Throughout late August, you may notice back-to-school sales, featuring home office furniture like desks, desk chairs, lamps, and even dorm decor. September and OctoberLabor Day is seen as an end-of-summer sale, making way for all the fall and winter collections. You’ll likely find pretty good deals at retailers like Target, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, and others. It’s a great time to update your space with simple decor like throw pillows, rugs, and dinnerware or with a new couch or new mattress at a discounted rate. And while you may not be able to use them until next year, Pendergrast says this is also a smart time to buy patio sets, Adirondack chairs, and pool accessories. “I always look for off-season items during sales, as they are typically more heavily discounted to make way for the next season’s items. So while it’s probably chilly and cold outside during these months, it’s a great time to start looking for patio furniture you’ll want to relax in when summer comes.”October has recently become quite a busy shopping month, with a second round of Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days and Wayfair's Way Day happening around the same time.November and December As soon as November hits, Black Friday season begins. The once day-long shopping spree is practically a month-long affair across every shopping category. Many brands like Amazon and Wayfair will switch up their deals by category to entice people to buy consistently throughout the month while also teasing the biggest deals to come on Black Friday itself (always held the day after Thanksgiving). Online retailers usually offer flash sales with up to 75 percent off, plus free shipping on all your furniture, appliance, and home decor needs.Depending on the calendar, Cyber Monday will occasionally occur in December (it is always held the Monday after Thanksgiving). While there are usually holiday-specific deals sprinkled throughout the remainder of December leading up to the holidays, this can be considered the last major chance to purchase home goods (and gifts!) all year.
