Isn’t it a relief to get through one of the hardest months of the year? I’m never one to wish away time, but with the evenings starting to get lighter here in the UK, and the sun when it does decide to come out feeling a little warmer, there’s a sense of hope in the air.

January was a bit of an up-and-down month for me. I unexpectedly got offered a new job, struggled to motivate myself at times, and still didn’t get around to starting the editing of the novel I finished last year. However, reading remained a priority.

It’s safe to say it was a bit of a mixed month for me, as my most anticipated read of the year, Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros fell short of my expectations whereas others took me by complete surprise. Luckily, out of the books I got through this month, I’m here to tell you what’s worth reading, and what’s not.

What are your thoughts?

The Book of George explanation really highlights how reading can promote empathy even if you start 100% opposed to the character.

I enjoyed Forged in Blood enough to reach for the second book in the series, but this one just wasn’t as good.

You thought the second one fell short, huh? I felt the same way when I kept going with a series hoping it would pick up but just... didn’t.

Wait . . . Storygraph is so much aesthetic now. Wow! You may have just convinced me to go back.
