Dear Valued Bentley User,

As part of our global rationalization plan, our world-class product teams and Commercial Programs colleagues are working diligently to simplify our product portfolio—and clarify commercial offerings—by streamlining our offerings to help you advance in your work and improve your user experience.

To achieve this goal, Bentley has made the difficult decision to end support for Bentley Pointools starting September 1, 2023. However, we understand that many of you may still have projects that require the use of Bentley Pointools features. Therefore, we’ve outlined three options below based on your subscription type to ensure you can continue working on your point clouds.

  • Keep Using Bentley Pointools. Although the product reaches the end of development and general availability on September 1, SELECT subscribers can still use the current software version you’re entitled to under your existing contract beyond the product deprecation date at no additional cost but will be unable to purchase any new licenses for Bentley Pointools. However, please note that if you choose this option, you will not receive Bentley support for product issues such as bug fixes and security patches as of December 31, 2025.

For Virtuoso users, please note you will be able to continue using Bentley Pointools until the end of your current contract period, even if that contract expires after September 1. At your next contract renewal, however, you will be given the option to purchase either LumenRT or iTwin Capture Manage & Extract licenses in place of Bentley Pointools.

  • Migrate to Bentley LumenRT. If you mainly use Bentley Pointools for virtual tours and videos, we recommend migrating to LumenRT. This product offers the following benefits:
    • Smooth navigation and measurement tools around point clouds
    • Advanced animation and video recording capabilities

Please note that should you migrate to LumenRT as a SELECT subscriber, you will see a price reduction applied to the purchase of this new perpetual license and related maintenance contract. For Virtuoso subscribers migrating to LumenRT at the end of their current contracts, you will also notice a decrease in cost for this application in comparison to what you currently pay for Bentley Pointools.

  • Migrate to iTwin Capture Manage & Extract. If you mainly use Bentley Pointools for point-cloud management and classification, we recommend migrating to iTwin Capture Manage & Extract. This product offers the following benefits:
    • Management of unlimited size point clouds
    • Manual and automatic feature extraction on point clouds
    • Combination of point clouds, imagery, and reality meshes in a single environment for advanced measurements

Please note that should you migrate to iTwin Capture Manage & Extract, you will see a price increase on your invoice at the time of your next renewal if you are a SELECT subscriber.

Special Note for E365 subscribers

Effective September 1, Bentley Pointools will be removed from our Software Download Center. Users already running this application will be able to continue using it after the product deprecation date; however, you will not be able to download it again should it be removed from your desktop, nor will any new users be authorized to use it after September 1. E365 subscribers will be able to begin using LumenRT or iTwin Capture Manage & Extract at any time and will be charged based on your usage of these new products according to the cost associated with it in Bentley’s price book.

For more information on the capabilities of the products outlined above, we encourage you to visit the LumenRT Communities page and the iTwin Capture Manage & Extract Communities page.

If you have any questions regarding this deprecation announcement, you may contact Bentley Support.

Sincerely,

Bentley Systems
