Debito Arudou biography complaint
Debito Arudou biography complaint
The Debito Arudou complaint seems to be an example of a Wikipedia editor using the article to defame the subject.
Re: Debito Arudou biography complaint
That article is rather negatively biased. If I knew more about the subject, I'd make it more positive.

Re: Debito Arudou biography complaint
I have actually had the displeasure of working with Mr Arudo/Aldwinkle. He was a writer for my site, japantoday.com. He wrote 18 columns for us for about $1800. All was fine until we were told by our accountant that we had made a mistake, and that we had to withhold tax from three of his payments. He went in a hissy fit and badmouthed me on his site. All over $60. Needless to say we didn't hire him any more, and told others to be careful when dealing with him. Nobody I know in Japan has any respect for him. I am glad he is getting his time wasted by Wikipedia.

Basically, he's complaining about the article being pretty accurate.

Re: Debito Arudou biography complaint
Looks like he no longer lives in Japan. He now writes a regular column for the Japan Times focusing on discrimination against gaijin in Japan. From what I understand, sometime after he moved to Japan and took up residency with his Japanese wife, he decided to become a Japanese citizen. I think I read on his blog that part of the reason he did it was to give an "F-you" to then president Bush. He had some distressful experiences with legitimate discrimination in Hokkaido, and decided to turn it into some kind of life mission to continually excoriate the Japanese for their sometimes childish attitudes towards foreigners. I agree with some of his opinions and disagree with others. I thought his column which may have been the basis for this article was a good one.

I'm actually surprised there isn't more on en-WP about Japanese nationalism (T-H-L) and related subjects, and that the existing articles look rather bland and haven't been editwarred or pwned by either Japan fanboys or Japan-bashers. The Japanese right wing is a very large and diverse (and crazy) area, but there's very little content about it on WP.

I suppose Americans aren't terribly worried about Japan. No doubt you'd find plenty on the Korean site.EricBarbour wrote:I'm actually surprised there isn't more on en-WP about Japanese nationalism (T-H-L) and related subjects, and that the existing articles look rather bland and haven't been editwarred or pwned by either Japan fanboys or Japan-bashers. I guess until Japanese nationalists actually start physically attacking Americans, nobody cares. I have openly trolled those guys on several occasions, and to their credit, they gave me a half-second dirty look then ignored me. It's hard to find a reason to vilify someone when they refuse to engage. Lately, however, they have been protesting in the Korean neighborhoods in Japan, so as you say the Koreans may legitimately have a different perspective.Poetlister wrote:I suppose Americans aren't terribly worried about Japan.
