The Montpelier Inn's troubled history
The Montpelier Inn shut in 2020 after a mass brawl and stabbing on Wednesday, November 4 - the night before a lockdown was imposed.
A man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, reports at the time said.
Police then uncovered damning evidence of drug-dealing at the premises.
City councillors were told The Montpelier Inn had bulk quantities of class A drugs, with “deal bags” in the drip trays under the beer pumps as well as “deal lists” and scales, according to a barrister.
Plans were to turn the derelict pub into flats were rejected by the city council in 2022.

Police activity 'very concerning'
The mum first saw what was happening when she was alerted by a neighbour while walking her dog.
She said: "It is just very, very concerning. This is an area with lots of families with young children and elderly people, and we just don't know what is going on."
Referring to the vacant pub premises, she said: "It has been dodgy for a long time."
There are currently two police vehicles still at the scene.
According to neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, police arrived at around midday today.
She claimed that at its peak there were at least seven police vehicles in the area.
The woman said the activity appeared to centre around The Montpelier Inn pub, which has been shut since 2020.
Sussex Police has been approached for more information.
