Castle Garden is an area in B3313.

Description[]

The area consists of a castle connected to a colossal walled garden with a long walkway, filled sparsely with trees, flowerbeds and Goombas. Both ends have a set of double doors each. Viewing from the castle doors, there's a warp pipe to the left. At the wall on the opposite side, double doors lead into a black nothingness, where a star, seemingly free to grab, is floating.

If the player tries to catch the item, which is in itself a lure, it suddenly disappears; Mario, or Luigi, is instantly warped to a zone underwater, and suddenly attacked by a swarm of eels. The only option remaining is death, since doors can't be opened underwater. When such horrifying event occurs, Fast Travel is disabled.

Additionally, as of 1.0, if the player has collected 120 stars or more, a mushroom shaped house appears next to the warp pipe.

Origins[]

The area's layout is an original creation. The wall texture is taken from the Shoshinkai beta version of Super Mario 64, while the appearance of the trees comes from unused sprites found in the vanilla game's source code. The brick texture is recreated from the pre-E3 1966 Super Mario 64 versions.

There is no music playing in the area other than the "Correct Solution" jingle, which plays once upon entrance.

Trivia[]

  • The original star requirement to get to Toad's Rec Room in the very first version of v1.0 was 30 stars instead of the intended 120 stars.
  • The eels, even when moving, appear inanimate.
  • The area with the eel trap is referred to internally as "bitema dick," a play on the ligma meme. [1]
