Castle Grounds is an area in B3313.
Description[]
The area resembles the castle grounds seen in beta versions of Super Mario 64. During daytime, the player spawns here upon starting a new game or opening a save file, and they can switch between Mario and Luigi by pressing the L button.
The Princess Peach stained glass window from the vanilla game is replaced with the clock symbol seen in the Shoshinkai 1995 demo. Hidden behind the clock is a short passageway with double doors that lead to Twisted Red Hallway. An enemy Bob-omb NPC is stuck in the floor upside down beside the doors; when spoken to, he begs the player to turn off the game. Other changes to the front area of the castle include two warp holes beneath the bridge and a door to Silent Hall across from the waterfall, which itself has a new warp.
The castle grounds have also been expanded from the vanilla version to include an area behind the castle, which resembles a courtyard with a large Toad statue in the middle. A Wing Cap is hidden behind one of the windows on the castle, allowing the player to reach the passageway behind the clock, as well as the roof where they can find Yoshi. A set of back doors in the castle lead to Crescent Castle. Separate from the main castle, a wall in back of the area has doors to Toad's Lobby and a cave entrance leading to Dark Hallway. Another Yoshi stands outside the cave.
If the player has no Red Stars, every door besides the front doors of the castle will be locked, and the player will not be able to enter any of the warp holes in the moat or the tunnel. However, there are some areas that can be accessed without Red Stars, Twisted Red Hallway, Waterfall, and Eel Graveyard. All other warps become accessible after the player collects one Red Star.
Starting the game at night (8:00 PM to 4:59 AM) will spawn the player at the Nighttime Castle Grounds instead. Exits within the castle that normally lead to Castle Grounds will generally warp the player to Nighttime Castle Grounds in this timeframe. However, regardless of time of day, there is a random chance those exits will warp to the standard Castle Grounds, Nighttime Castle Grounds, or Castle Grounds (Sunset).
In Christmas Build and earlier versions, an alternate version of Castle Grounds can be reached by going out of bounds in Tiny-Huge Island (beta).
In v0.2, there is some music playing and many pipes near the spawn-point. However, these seem to have been temporary/placeholder, as by v0.2.5 (M27), both the pipes and music had vanished.
In E3313, the castle’s map is altered to look alike the Vanilla Castle Grounds, although the moat door is gone, and the water is still there.
Origins[]
The area is inspired by the Shoshinkai beta version of Super Mario 64. The Toad statue behind the castle can be seen in some of Annielogue's videos, but the area is otherwise an original creation.
There is no music playing in this area, but ambient bird noises can be heard.

A STRANGE FORCE IS LOCKING THIS DOOR...
Sign by Dark Hallway:[]
IS IT EVEN WORTH TRYING TO WARN YOU?
Yoshi in front of Dark Hallway:[]
WELCOME TO A NEW ADVENTURE! THERE ARE SO MANY WORLDS TO VISIT! BUT SO LITTLE TIME! YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHERE TO GO FIRST, RIGHT? JUST LET IT HAPPEN. LIKE A DREAM. HINT, LOOK AT THE SKY INSIDE THE CASTLE IF YOU HAVE 10 POWER STARS, AND YOU MIGHT SEE THE WORLD SHIFT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES. AND REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN SWITCH PLUMBERS HERE BY PRESSING THE L BUTTON! CAN YOU HEAR THE PRINCESS CALLING? I KNOW YOU ARE BRAVE, BUT PLEASE DON'T TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT RESTS BEHIND THAT PASSAGE. IT IS NOT PART OF THE SHOW. GOOD LUCK!

Version History[]
- v0.9
- Added Red Stars. All entrances except front entrance will be locked if the player does not have at least 1 red star.
- Starting the game at nighttime (8:00 PM to 4:59 AM) will spawn player in the Nighttime Castle Grounds instead of Castle Grounds.
- Exits leading to Castle Grounds have a random chance of going to Nighttime Castle Grounds instead.
- Added Red Stars. All entrances except front entrance will be locked if the player does not have at least 1 red star.
- Christmas Build
- Added Nighttime Castle Grounds.
- v0.1
- Added Castle Grounds.
Trivia[]
- The Toad statue makes Mario/Luigi bug out when he crawls near it.
- The sign is actually a retextured Bob-omb Buddy NPC. Thus, the player can interact with it without having to stand directly in front of it.
- In the Motos Factory Demo, this area was replaced with the Motos Demo Castle Grounds.
- When viewing this area in a level editor, a dark brick plane is visible below the lake. This acts as the warp to Eel Graveyard.
- The Waterfall area is supposed to require a Wing Cap, but it can be accessed with a precise triple jump and/or a combination of sliding and jump-kicking. This allows for a sequence break since it can be done even without a Red Star.

"no."
I would like to bring this one up, and thats the fact that there is a "Alternate Castle Grounds". Apparently, in 0.7, it was accessible by dying in Tiny Huge Island (beta), and is also Castle Grounds Area 1. it was removed in 1.0 Proof are the following two YT videos, one by VeloxusGaming, and another one by BikdipOnABus, one more thing: To reach the Altered Castle Grounds part in Bikdip's video, go to 11:25.
Also, when testing on B3313 0.9 and 1.0 with 1 red star, when I die via falling OOB in Tiny Huge Island (beta), it for some reason takes me to Plexal Lobby. I do know that it was very briefly documented in the "Leading here" section (and in the comments), so at least make Alternate Castle Grounds a seperate page/or a section in this page. Also verify everything I told you here.
What's the difference between Vanilla Castle Grounds and "The Vanilla version of this map" that falling from THI brought you to?
In the second version, it's just Castle Grounds, only with a different skybox and no warps (this was removed from version 1.0). You can read about the first one here
Are there terms yet for these overworld variants? They appear in 1.0 Official and seem to show up randomly.
I nickname this one the Sunset Castle Grounds.
All exits/doors seem to work.
The moat is full.
Goombas spawn, like they do on the Nighttime Castle Grounds if your difficulty PV is high.
Both Yoshis are missing.
The tunnel sign is there, but not doubled in the way it is on the nighttime overworld.
The Bob-Omb NPC is in the front clock hallway.
The Red Cap box is a yellow ? Block containing nothing.
You cannot swap with Luigi.
I nickname this one the Twilight Castle Grounds.
All exits/doors seem to work.
The moat is full.
Goombas don't spawn, as though it's the main daytime variant.
Yoshi is on the roof, but not in front of the tunnel.
The tunnel sign is there, but not doubled in the way it is on the nighttime overworld.
The Bob-Omb NPC is in the front clock hallway.
The Red Cap box is present.
You can swap with Luigi.
The top one is the Sunset Castle Grounds. There is a random chance of going to this when you leave the Beta Lobbies. It kind of acts like the nighttime variant.
The bottom one is just the Castle Grounds after 8 PM. At night, you start at Nighttime Castle Grounds (Which is different, and can be accessed from random chance even in the daytime). If you go through a warp that takes you to daytime Castle Grounds, this is what it looks like when viewed at night.
It's interesting that Yoshi goes away (but stays on the roof) in the evening version of the normal Castle Grounds, though I guess there are subtle time-based differences like that in a lot of areas in the game.
what about this area and what his name too
Its Silent Hall, man
There's a suffocating Bob-omb like the one in the Randomized Realm located next to the entrance to the Twisted Red Hallway, but it doesn't cut out music or crash the game, instead just saying "TURN IT OFF" repeatedly for like three text boxes
No worries, my dear lad! Because I've added your screenshot.
