Quoted from luvthatapex2:

These are the replacement computers that AP sells for the various models. You can get them somewhere else but model matters. Best to stick with one from AP if available so it would be plug and play.
https://store.american-pinball.com/search?type=product&q=computer
J1900 - Houdini/Oktoberfest
Raspberry Pi4 (AP doesn't sell them)/Mini PC - LOV (2021-2023 RPi4, 2024-2025 MiniPC)
Mini PC - HotWheels, GTF, Barry 0

More

I am aware of what they offer. But for less than that $400 you can now buy a mini PC that is 10x faster than that old J1900 (which is discontinued now, so that stock is going to dry up). So my question is how hard is it to get the OS to run on newer hardware. If nobody knows, I guess I can start tinkering. I just figured someone out there must have tried it already.

#6902 30 hours ago
Quoted from rosh:

AP has always used 'Williams' 11629 flippers, except the right flipper on Oktoberfest which is a slightly different coil. As far as I know they are wound the same way they were done when Williams used them. So not sure which different William's flipper coils they tried.

More

I didn't get more details other than the secret coil tip was to use B/W coils, which is no tip at all. More Fix BS.

Quoted from spoke:

Some of you guys really make me laugh, still drinking the Fix koolaid.

How was this upper management?. Was GTF their idea? Did they put games at a show that did not operate correctly? Was doing the tank cabinet their idea? Was only building the tank version at first their idea? Did they put out flyers and marketing promotions with typos and photos of the wrong game? Did they say the limited editions were all sold when we all knew that was BS? Did they come up with the idea of doing BBQ? Did they decide to push back back Yukon Yeti and do BBQ instead? Fix is always trying to point the blame elsewhere, nothing is his fault -- not buying it. I'm sure upper management created challenges, as is the case in many companies, but they also invested millions of dollars into AP and by all accounts Aimtron is a very successful business while Fix has no track record of success, so, I have a hard time buying that they were the primary issue.

They already show Scorbit on Hot Wheels THREE Expos ago and that code was never released. Hopefully this GTF code does get released as it sounds like the current games really need it. But I don't get how in all the time since it's release they did not spend this time finding the issues and fixing them, but waited until after they were all let go to "pour over the code"?, Then again, wasn't some guy posting for months he was working with the coder to fix stuff, so, I guess this is another case of Fix twisting things to try to make himself look good.

Wasn't this right when he first started, so in four years, he was not able to get any of these things out the door? Didn't they first do Houdini in like four months, but in four years, they could not get out whatever this magical thing was that was going to somehow make Houdini better. Fix always makes things sound great, but it is meaningless when nothing is ever finished.
If only Fix could sell pinball machines as well as he sells bullshit, or maybe if his thousands of friends who had reached out since he was let go had bought games, the company would be doing just fine and he and the team would still be there.

More

I'm not drinking any Fix Koolaid (probably tastes terrible even though he would try and tell you its tasty) and I promise I am more informed than you. Thanks.

Just trying to help you out here. Its a custom linux build so good luck. Sometimes getting something that will work out of the box is worth the premium.

Completely understand. I'm a nerd who likes to tinker with this kind of stuff, so I'm happy to play around and share what I learn.

Custom linux - tell me the configuration of the kernel and we all get the custom linux

#6907 28 hours ago

Personally, I have zero concern about the code of any American Pinball game running on whatever motherboards might exist for the foreseeable future.

#6908 27 hours ago
Quoted from Joe_Blasi:

But are they stuck on older Linux kernels that may not run right on newer pc hardware?

This concern/issue would be no different then with any other company using a PC. The OS image is obviously built with a specific kernel and certainly possible that at some point in the very distant future, that there could be compatibility issues, but suspect there will be plenty of work arounds. Odds are by the time this is an issue, I won't be around to help, but Ferret and Casey are younger than me, so they might be

I just need an image of the LoV software, where’s about does one find that?

#6910 27 hours ago

Only AP has a full image. Do you have the rpi4 or the mini-pc? Did your pc die? If so call support for assistance

I have no dog in this fight, but as others have said: Theme, theme, theme.

I don’t pretend to work at a pinball company, and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night, nor do I play a doctor on tv. And I know pinball is hard.

Houdini was a good unlicensed theme, recognizable and family theme with cool gimmicks.

Hotwheels was as well, but might not have had the draw from the older crowd. (Even though it’s a good game!)

GTF and BBQ, while campy and having serious design-team chops…c’mon.

Beating the dead horse here I know…go with a recognizable license, or a generic one that captures the attention of everyone.

How much is an Eval Knieval license nowadays? Jackass? X-Games? All basically recycled, but could be really interesting.

Maybe a generic 80’s decade themed game to hit that nostalgia, or a game about doing some “mission” i.e. space travel, climbing Everest, being a pirate, battling your parents or boss for your right to party. Being in a band ala Rock Band to become the biggest in the world. Something where you accomplish something and are rewarded along the way with cool music and animations, because at the end of the day, that’s what makes people feel good.

I always look to Mousin’, Taxi, Diner, and Bad Cats for original themes that hit: basically generic themes that solely the back glass and game play tells the story of, and you TOTALLY get it as the player, and are pulled in.

Or, much more likely, I’m just an out of touch old guy, and would have Stern tits-up in a week if I was at the helm.

And I wish AP and their next game great success!

#6912 23 hours ago
Quoted from MiniPinHead:

All AP ever had to do to be successful was build White Water 2

*All AP ever had to do to be successful was build Masters of the Universe. Also White Water 2.

that is bad for right to repair even more for one that may just shutdown.

#6914 23 hours ago

Agree, but only stern seems to release their full image for restore. Do any other companies?

Gallows humor while doing jury duty. I wish them the best as well, but the black tide at AP is strong, apparently. Maybe i should send them a pair of talismans...

Me too. They are already busy working to make service better.

Also, there's yet ANOTHER pinball company making it's appearance.....so....there's that....

#6923 3 hours ago

I’m curious to know where Zofia went. Fix had mentioned she was already scooped up by another pinball company.

I have a feeling JJP or another company will be scooping up Ryan too. They would be stupid not to.

Ha. Your constant cheerleading makes me never want to buy an AP. If you are friendly with the owners as you claim you certainly aren’t doing them any favors mocking potential customers.

He is still too green he doesn't have a production game under his belt yet.

Wanting them to stay in business so that I have more options to choose from is now, "simping"?

I love playing pinball, it's why I'm here. The more companies and machines that are out there, the better. But that's just my opinion.

Who knows, maybe someday a company will hurt me the way they've hurt you and I will go about my day trying my best to spread doom and gloom.

#6929 2 hours ago
Quoted from danarchy:

Mark Seiden was green too, yet JJP trusted him with Avatar. Everyone has to start somewhere. Both Seiden and McQuaid created award winning Home Brew pinball machines. McQuaid even created that silly remote control tank for GTF and those innovative bash locks in their other game. He has a lot of potential that companies would be smart to seize on. That’s all I’m saying.

You see the bastion of pinball is only supposed to be the ones speaking us plebs are supposed to sit down and second every syllable that comes pouring out their mouths.

I mean look on this thread, credibility doesn't mean anything to these high falutent know it all and blowhards if I had a 100 dollars for every post on the GTF hype thread that was saying that this game is the one that gives American pinball the MI that does them I'd be rich.

I have blocked people it will make your pinside experience better.

You mean AP didn't fire everyone and tell them they were getting out of designing pinballs? Funny how you gloss over that part.. I guess they must have just... lost interest while sales were booming around them?

That must have been it... loss of interest. Thank god all those rumors of missed objectives and floudering were... true, just.. not why the company is punting.

SEE THEY ARE HIRING!!!

(ignores why the jobs were vacant in the first place...)

Maybe Amanda and Nate's first customer service project could be to police the grammar in AP's announcements.

Hell, at least they are hiring. At my work, if someone quits, you can’t backfill the role. It’s great for morale, let me tell you.

Servicing their boss(es) might turn into a sticky situation. Best just ignore the mistakes.

That would be a full time job.

I just listened to the second half of the interview and I'm just shaking my head at the whole thing. He's talking about the proposed add-on, backward compatible mods for the previous games but instead of naming them he keeps referring to them as games 1-3. Just weird. I mean why not say "I was working on an add-on loop for Hotwheels"?? Does he really think Aimtron is going to come after him for something as benign as that?

One I also thought was a ridiculous pile of BS earlier in interview is when he said something like they had 100 licensed themes in the list to re-theme BBQ.
