After four days on the trail, the finish line might soon be in sight for mushers in the 550-mile race. As of this writing, six of the eight teams remain – Jason Mackey and Patrick Mackey were reported to have scratched.
Jeff Deeter continues to lead the way. He is 461.4 miles in and just 16.4 miles outside of Chicken – the final checkpoint before the finish line. He has maintained the fastest time from the Central checkpoint onward.
Behind Deeter are Jonah Bacon and Lauro Ecklund, who are also making progress towards Chicken. Both were last tracked at 425.6 miles, leaving 52.2 until the next checkpoint. Josi Shelley is closely behind at 424.0.
Keaton Loebrich and Joey Sabin have both passed the checkpoint in Eagle, meaning all remaining teams have done so. Loebrich is nearing the 400-mile mark, as he sits at 395.0, and Sabin rounds out the group at 380.9.
