Dit is een zeer belangrijke video. Een video die elke (potentiële) ouder zou moeten zien. Ik denk dat velen van boven de veertig, kijkend naar de ontwikkeling van de wereld, zien dat het in steeds rapper tempo helemaal de verkeerde kant op gaat. Hoe komt dat nou?
Het gaat niet goed met de jongere generaties. Slecht zelfs. Wat is er gebeurd in de afgelopen 20 jaar dat zo bepalend is geweest voor bijna iedereen, iets waardoor zelfs het straatbeeld volkomen is veranderd?
Ik woon nu op een steenworp afstand van het huis waar ik grotendeels ben opgegroeid als kind. Om de hoek is een rij garages waar ik met mijn broer, tot grote ergernis van de buurt, voetbalde en de garagedeur als doel gebruikte, waar de bal bij contact met de deur een luide knal veroorzaakte. Nu ik zelf ouder ben, en gesteld op mijn rust, begrijp ik die ergernis wel.
Die ergernis is er niet meer. De garages zijn er nog, maar spelende kinderen zie je al heel lang niet meer, of zeer sporadisch. Waar vroeger de straten van onze slaapwijk gevuld waren met kinderen die touwtje sprongen, elastiekten, voetbalden, knikkerden en al die andere dingen waar wij we als kind mee vermaakten in onze vrije tijd, zijn diezelfde straten nu leeg. Fijn voor mij, lekker stil. Maar voor de kinderen?
Wat er gebeurde was de intrede van de smartphone, met de mogelijkheid om verbonden te zijn met internet waar je ook was. Internet, de grote ontsnapping. Jongeren, en zelfs kinderen, zijn niet blind. Vele kinderen en jongeren worden gedwongen elke ochtend te kijken naar het Jeugdpropagandakanaal, pardon, Jeugdjournaal of NOS ochtendjournaal. Dagelijks kunnen ze zien wat een enorme puinhoop de volwassenen ervan hebben gemaakt. Een wereld waar het gevaar om elke hoek loert. De vreselijke dreigingen die op hen af lijken te komen. Corona. Klimaatrampen. Een Derde Wereldoorlog.
Niet gek dat kinderen en jongeren bang zijn (gemaakt) en steeds vaker te kampen hebben met depressie. En derhalve niet gek dat zij makkelijk te verleiden zijn om zich onder te dompelen in een virtuele realiteit. En omdat kinderen en jongeren moeilijk of geen weerstand kunnen bieden tegen verleiding, het deel van de hersenen dat daarvoor zorgt is pas rond het 20ste jaar klaar, zijn ze een makkelijk slachtoffer.
Slachtoffer van sociale mediabedrijven die, zo bleek uit lekkages van en klokkenluider, op de hoogte zijn van dit fysiologische feit en het ten volle uitbuiten. Apps zijn ontworpen om zo verslavend mogelijk te zijn. En bijna iedereen is verslaafd, niet alleen jongeren.
Het doet me denken aan de Opiumoorlogen in de 19de eeuw. De Britten hadden miljoenen Chinezen verslaafd gemaakt aan opium. En verslaafden zijn heel makkelijk te controleren.
Nu is bijna iedereen verslaafd aan de telefoon. Bij het gebruik van sociale media en spelletjes wordt het beloningscentrum in de hersenen aangesproken en wordt een stofje geproduceerd dat even een fijn gevoel geeft. Je raakt verslaafd en wilt steeds meer. Handig. Voor de machthebbers ...

Synopsis

Dit is een zeer belangrijke video. Een video die elke (potentiële) ouder zou moeten zien. Ik denk dat velen van boven de veertig, kijkend naar de ontwikkeling van de wereld, zien dat het in steeds rapper tempo helemaal de verkeerde kant op gaat. Hoe komt dat nou?
Het gaat niet goed met de jongere generaties. Slecht zelfs. Wat is er gebeurd in de afgelopen 20 jaar dat zo bepalend is geweest voor bijna iedereen, iets waardoor zelfs het straatbeeld volkomen is veranderd?
Ik woon nu op een steenworp afstand van het huis waar ik grotendeels ben opgegroeid als kind. Om de hoek is een rij garages waar ik met mijn broer, tot grote ergernis van de buurt, voetbalde en de garagedeur als doel gebruikte, waar de bal bij contact met de deur een luide knal veroorzaakte. Nu ik zelf ouder ben, en gesteld op mijn rust, begrijp ik die ergernis wel.
Die ergernis is er niet meer. De garages zijn er nog, maar spelende kinderen zie je al heel lang niet meer, of zeer sporadisch. Waar vroeger de straten van onze slaapwijk gevuld waren met kinderen die touwtje sprongen, elastiekten, voetbalden, knikkerden en al die andere dingen waar wij we als kind mee vermaakten in onze vrije tijd, zijn diezelfde straten nu leeg. Fijn voor mij, lekker stil. Maar voor de kinderen?
Wat er gebeurde was de intrede van de smartphone, met de mogelijkheid om verbonden te zijn met internet waar je ook was. Internet, de grote ontsnapping. Jongeren, en zelfs kinderen, zijn niet blind. Vele kinderen en jongeren worden gedwongen elke ochtend te kijken naar het Jeugdpropagandakanaal, pardon, Jeugdjournaal of NOS ochtendjournaal. Dagelijks kunnen ze zien wat een enorme puinhoop de volwassenen ervan hebben gemaakt. Een wereld waar het gevaar om elke hoek loert. De vreselijke dreigingen die op hen af lijken te komen. Corona. Klimaatrampen. Een Derde Wereldoorlog.
Niet gek dat kinderen en jongeren bang zijn (gemaakt) en steeds vaker te kampen hebben met depressie. En derhalve niet gek dat zij makkelijk te verleiden zijn om zich onder te dompelen in een virtuele realiteit.
