The US Senate has confirmed Lee Zeldin (pictured), an attorney and former New York congressman, as the next administrator of the US EPA.
Three Democrats – Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego and Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman – joined all Republicans in voting to confirm the nominee on a 56 to 42 vote.
In an EPA statement released today, the new administrator said he would continue the environmental and conservation actions carried out during the first Trump administration, "while also prioritising economic prosperity". The agency also noted that during his time in Congress, Zeldin had "combated per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water" and voted for the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act that amended TSCA in 2016.
