The UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (SCETDG) has agreed to add a provision to the UN Model Regulations to allow the transport of items containing limited quantities of both dangerous goods and small lithium batteries.

The committee adopted the proposal, submitted by China, at its December meeting. Items classed as UN 3363 (dangerous goods in articles, machinery or apparatus) are currently not permitted to also contain batteries. The amendment to the Model Regulations will allow transport of items containing dangerous goods and batteries if they meet certain conditions from 1 January 2027.
