It was an honor to completely restore a Williams Cyclone. Like fellow enthusiasts, the journey started out with a desire to revisit happier times. As a young person, I recall playing this machine at a local arcade with my father many a time, and it created lots of fond memories. I had no idea getting into this project how much work it would be!

In summary, the goal was to recreate the best possible machine out there, and I truly believe the professional restorers really poured their hearts and souls into this project. We replaced everything possible, and upgraded everything possible. Expense truly was a bi-product of the ultimate goal, to get it right! When I look fondly at the finished product, the following items stand out to me, but I am almost certain there are many things missing from the summary on my website below:

Appologize for having to post a link to my website, but the list of items done to this is too extensive for the forum, so thanks for checking out my link and reading thru!

Seems like a nice enough restore, but to my mind, even above HEP prices, without anywhere near the level of fit and finish. The poor wire routing under the playfield, the bare apron, the crappy unpainted backbox panel all suggest this is not professionally done.

Best of luck with the sale, but to me, easily four to five grand ambitious on the pricing.

#5 9 days ago

Great restore but too much loot. Ya coulda wiped the white board for that kinda cash.

#6 9 days ago

I think there's an extra " 1 " at the beginning of the price......

But seriously, as stated earlier, this isn't anywhere near HEP quality, and more than HEP price. What's with the black goopy looking paint on top of the lockdown reciever mech??

Expense wasn’t the only bi-product..

Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

Not even close.

Cyclone average like 3500. This has new pf and cab restore. Plus then the time to install.

5k you’re dreaming.

#12 9 days ago

You guys are being too hard on this seller. Clearly when typing in the price, they fat fingered the #1 in front of the 4. The seller will realize their mistake when they open up the listing again and correct the price to the original hopes of getting $4950.00

You guys are being silly to actually think that this person meant to type in $14,950 on purpose

Just wait and see

#13 9 days ago

This is clearly a very personal and passionate project for you, but you cannot sell that passion or personal attachment to a buyer. I'd say keep the game. Either way glws

new cabinet for 2k = 5500

Usually I agree with you about prices, but no way this should be a 5k pin considering a new pf and cab restoration.

The amount of work it takes to restore a cab is great. If you’ve done one (correctly) you’d know. Not to mention to time to swap the pf.

His asking price is insane but so is 5k.

You rarely get back out of a restore what you put into it, especially for lower-tier titles. Unless you're HEP caliber (and judging from the lockdown bar receiver, this ain't), probably best to do it as a labor of love.

I totally get why the seller would restore a Cyclone, based on memories with his dad. That's a great argument for keeping it, but not for anyone to pay $5k+ for it.

#17 8 days ago

I’d buy this in a heartbeat for 5k. (Even 5k+)

You’re not simply rebuilding flippers or adjusting switches, or shopping the game.

It literally takes dozens of hours in labor to restore a cab and pf. These aren’t exactly rolling off an assembly line somewhere.

You can’t expect the work involved to be disregarded when it comes to pricing.

Its not disregarded, but its also not worth 7-10k over the value of the game either.

Flipper mech missing grommet.

#20 8 days ago

Nice job on the restore.

When you go that far on a pin you have to realize the games value, collectability and demand if your intention is to sell it when your done.

There's only so much juice you can squeeze.

Someone will definitely buy this pin but within reason.

#21 8 days ago

Restorations are a labor of love. yancy is correct that you won't get your money out of it. I have a friend who does beautiful ground up restorations and builds of SS Sterns, and I've seen first hand the amount of time and effort he puts into them. I've bought one (a QS) from him, and I paid a lot for it. But if he charged by the hour for the amount of time he put into the project, the game would have been 2-3x as much. Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. No one on planet earth is paying 15k for a cyclone.

Cab restore with a Kruzman playfield and it's worth a bit over 5 grand but not much.

I wasn't going to pile on, but after reading the link in the ad description, this is pretty misleading. Just a quick browse of the photos and I saw lots of things that suggest this is an amateur effort, although the description in the link says otherwise. Reusing of old tarnished hardware, not cleaning the harness up, scuffs and scratches on shooter housing/lockdown, not repainting the light board, side walls scuffed up, and as someone mentioned earlier, both flipper mechs are missing the rubber stoppers.

Just involved in a deep restore of an Earthshaker, sold it at loss of what I had put in it . Now doing a basic ground up build of a Whirlwind and again will never get in $ what I have in this time and parts wise .

Upside took these on to further my knowledge of pinballs and satisfaction of completion of the 2 games .

Upside 2 games that will be good for an other 30-40 years

Well nobody is arguing that this is a $3500 game like most nice Cyclones. $5k isn't that unrealistic. Lets just say its listed at 7k, guaranteed it sits for a long time. MAYBE you find the needle in the haystack buyer at that price, but they're far and few between. Maybe you're that guy, I don't know. I do tend to agree 5 is a little low, but its not THAT low. Its gotta be right in the ballpark. Theres been plenty of nice Cyclones that have come up for sale and none of them have touched 5k yet. This thing is nice, but it needs to be ultimate nice and its not quite there. Its not even at HEP level, nor does it have the prominence of having the HEP name behind it, which certainly carries more weight than just a guy who fixed up a game at his house. If you'd buy it at 5k "in a heartbeat", then you should make this guy an offer because it'll probably be one of the best ones he gets.

It sure seemed like you were arguing that everyone was crazy for saying this was a 5k game and it should be a lot higher due to "how much work went in". If thats not what you were trying to say, then I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say, wtf was even the point of your post at all then? 5k is pretty close to where it should be. The realistic move is price it at $6500/obo. and take the best offer above 5. Probably goes somewhere between 5-5500, but the asking price leaves you room for the small chance of a high roller who doesn't mind buying the most expensive Cyclone ever despite it having flaws.

In case anyone hasn't clicked the link provided and read the sellers description (its lengthy), here's just a few statements that I find misleading and/or just plain false.

I hope he didn’t try to sell his dad, too.

#40 7 days ago

Just re-stating what's already been said....there is no Cyclone worth more than $5.5K...

#41 7 days ago

Considering everything one could buy with 15000 bucks, Im pretty sure even a gold plated Cyclone wouldnt make the cut. Game looks very nice but that price is just so completely out of touch with reality.

#42 7 days ago

I actually enjoy this game, but it isn't worth any more than 3k to me.

#43 7 days ago

I’m telling you guys, this seller has GOT to be on vacation and has not been back on Pinside yet to realize they fat fingered the #1 in front of the $4950 asking price. Should be showing up here anytime, completely embarrassed, and we’ll all have a good laugh.

Nobody on planet earth would put $14,950 on purpose, there’s just no way……

Lmao I hope, for his sake, you're right. Too bad it's clear this guy loves huffing his own farts, and probably is fully convinced it's worth his asking price

#45 7 days ago

It's listed on Craigslist as well (for the same price). Seller is free to ask whatever they want. Personally, I can think of a few *pairs* of NIB/HUO machines I'd get instead of dropping $15k on this one. DnD Prem./UXM Pro for starters.

The market will decide what the right price is...but I am having fun watching the discussion.

Imagine being a person that would actually pay that much for this. So one day some friends come over and they (rightly so) are impressed by its beauty. "Oh wow! How much did this cost?" they ask. And when you tell them 15k... you're going to be judged until your deathbed and beyond for the purchase.

Hey man, remember when Randy paid FIFTEEN THOUSAND for that one circus game?!

#49 6 days ago

I wouldn’t pay anywhere near this for a HEP Cyclone.

#50 6 days ago

I did a labor of love Cyclone restoration about 8 years ago. I had about 4k into it after base game and parts. No idea how many hours. I got $2800 for it.

I'm wondering if this guy hired a local craigslist repair guy to do this restoration and they charged him like $90/hr. So maybe he's 12k into this game?
