Thanks so much for the kind comments everyone! Seen a few Qs in tags etc so to answer: (1) Turo was in stasis liquid but not to heal, he was already dead, it was just so the kids didn't walk into research station 4 and smell a whole ass rotting corpse. (2) Yes that is Tyme's hand in the hospital!

Companion fic to my Zero comic, Part 1/?

If you asked the staff at Uva Academy, there was scarcely another person in Mesagoza more passionate about their job than Director Clavell himself.  The students are his greatest treasure, they will tell you; and of course, that much was obvious.  Nothing else would quite explain the “Glossary of modern slang” spreadsheet (of dubious accuracy) permanently on his desktop.  

Equally true, although they would all be far too modest to admit it, was that Director Clavell also treasured his staff.  Each was exceptional, in their own unique way, and, as such, indispensable to the academic institution.  Dendra, for example, was a remarkable athlete. Saguaro, “wholesome”, as the expression was used these days.  Jacq, brilliant, although you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise on first impressions alone.  Tyme, well…Tyme was… Tyme.  And Raifort, a woman with an encyclopaedic knowledge of history and a flair for the dramatics.

So Clavell thought, as the last-mentioned woman stood before him, peering at him over her glasses.

“Lovely to see you,” he had said.  “How can I be of assistance?”

To many scientists, the Great Crater of Paldea was a treasure trove of discoveries to be made and data to be analysed.  This was particularly so for biologists.  The Crater’s age and relative isolation from the rest of the region had resulted in the development of an enormous collection of unique flora and fauna.  Or so Clavell understood.  Jacq loved going on about biodiversity, but there was only so much taxonomy talk one could digest in one sitting.

Seeing the environment up close and personal once again, however, gave Clavell some fresh appreciation for his colleague’s ramblings.  No matter how many times Clavell went to Area Zero, the sight of cascading waterfalls over untamed vegetation never ceased to put him in awe.  How many million sunsets had those sheer cliffs witnessed, untouched, and how many more were yet to come?  Surely mother nature took inspiration from paradise, when it formed Area Zero right in the centre of Paldea.

In that moment, Clavell felt small.

But only for a moment.  There were students he had come to fetch.

Clavell was floating.  

Someone, somewhere, was calling his name.  

Who was it?  What did they want?  Couldn’t they tell that he was tired, that he had a lot of work to do, that this wasn’t a good time?  All this data wasn’t just going to sit there and analyse itself.  

And yet still the voice called.  

HC Scarlet/Violet timeline

This is based on information from the game (most of it being Raifort’s history course and the notes in the Zero Area Research Stations) as well as a general assessment of what makes most sense based on apparent ages etc. The only thing that doesn’t make sense internally in the game is Raifort’s statement that the Tera Orb was invented ten years before game time, when the notes in the Research Stations clearly state that Sada/Turo invented the orb before Arven was born. If both are right, then Arven is 9 years old or younger, which clearly isn’t right, so I’ve gone with the notes in the Research Stations and assumed the Tera Orb was invented over ten years before game time.

Timeline assumes start of game takes place in late 2022.
