36% of the employers see internal equality as the biggest challenge when it comes to #remuneration, says European survey by SD Worx. As a result, employees don’t always receive equal pay for equal work. This challenge is immediately followed by pay transparency (35%). It is astonishing that three out of ten employers are not fully aware of the legal rules around pay transparency, such as the EU Pay Transparency Directive of 10 May 2023. According to Bruce Fecheyr-Lippens, Chief People Director at SD Worx, there are four important pillars for a successful approach to remuneration. Starting with a strategic reward policy is the first one. 🚀 Exciting News! 🚀 Together with UAntwerpen, VITO, and AMS, we have developed the "Scaling with Impact" coaching program. This initiative is based on our extensive experience working with early-stage, innovative, and technology-driven startups that are predominantly founded by teams with scientific backgrounds. Our coaching program is designed to equip (scientific educated) founders with the skills necessary to navigate interactions with investors (securing larger funding rounds), handle follow-on investments, future-proof deal terms, manage boards effectively, and report to shareholders. It also addresses both the highs and lows of the entrepreneurial journey. This program is unique in its structure and cannot be found anywhere else in Flanders. It is not about theoretical discourse but about real-world experiences shared by individuals who work daily with and as entrepreneurs. We focus not only on the excitement of entrepreneurship but also on the challenging periods when founding teams often feel isolated. Constellium Nv ( $CSTM ) social hype OVER HYPED. Current odds of distress is under 5%: The company currently holds 1.87 B in liabilities with Debt to Equity (D/E) ratio of 2.74, implying the company greatly relies on financing operations through barrowing. Constellium Nv has a current ratio of 1.21, suggesting that it is in a questionable position to pay out its financial obligations when due. Debt can assist Constellium until it has trouble settling it off, either with new capital or with free cash flow. So, Constellium's shareholders could walk away with nothing if the company can't fulfill its legal obligations to repay debt. However, a more frequent occurrence is when companies like Constellium Nv sell additional shares at bargain prices, diluting existing shareholders. Debt, in this case, can be an excellent and much better tool for Constellium to invest in growth at high rates of return. When we think about Constellium's use of debt, we should always consider it together with cash and equity. Constellium maintains total debt of 1.87 b. Selling innovation is always counter-intuitive! I was thrilled to meet another Lifescience gem from Belgium. Under the leadership of the founder, BENOIT GRANIER, Unisensor has brought forward a steady streams of innovations in the last two decades. Their vision is to provide peace of mind in food by bringing smart diagnostic solutions from the laboratory to the field. I was very happy to be invited in their Q4 sales meeting where they got their entire salesforce together from Europe, the Middle-East, Asia and the Americas. The question of the day: are they successfully monetizing their most recent innovations and what else could they do to further improve? Turning the question into a highly interactive workshop was a great use of the time all together. The workshop has created energy, fun and new opportunities for further improvements. Many thanks to the Unisensor team for their warm welcome and the energy they have put into the workshop! For most technology intensive companies I work with, selling innovation is counter-intuitive: rushing in the market to explain what your innovation is all about will lead to poor results. Instead, your immediate objective is not to talk about you and your innovation but well to trigger an environnement of change at your customers, starting from where they are. First, you need to make sure your customers are convinced it is important, urgent and complex for them to change their current way of working. Important? The status quo is not an option for them, it is much too painful! Urgent? The change needs to happen now! They have been waiting for much too long, they have to « stop the bleeding » immediately. Complex? The change is difficult to execute. There are important risks and they don’t have all expertise to deliver on the desired change. Once the convinction for change is strong enough, you can position your innovative solution as a way to address the complexity of the change. When selling innovations, you need to sell the change which will lead to your solution. This is very different from selling your solution and will often require sales team behaviour adaptations.
