TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A federal jury has found a former Florida State University professor guilty of embezzlement.
James Doran was accused of transferring money from a student investment account into his personal account, without authorization.
Federal prosecutors say he embezzled a total of $650,000 from the College of Business “Student Investment Fund" between 2010 and 2011. The fund allows students to invest real money to essentially learn the ropes of investing. Doran was the faculty advisor.
Doran’s sentencing is set for February 12th. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

A Central Michigan University psychology professor is accused of embezzling money by creating fake participants in research and pocketing the money.
In addition to embezzlement by an agent or trustee between $20,000 and $50,000, Justin Dohoon Oh-Lee is charged in Isabella County with false pretenses between $20,000 and $50,000.
Oh-Lee’s next court date is Thursday at 8:15 a.m. in Judge William Rush’s Mt. Pleasant courtroom.
Oh-Lee, 50, of Mt. Pleasant is free in lieu of $100,000 bond. He is accused of keeping thousands of dollars in funds that were earmarked to pay participants in a Parkinson’s disease research program, according to court records, allegedly gambling the money at the Soaring Eagle Casino.
Longtime UA prof faces 10 felony charges -- April 27, 2015
One of the University of Arizona’s longest-serving professors has been indicted by a grand jury on suspicion of defrauding the school. John A. Marchello, 78, faces prosecution on 10 felony counts after money was misappropriated from a student-run meat store he oversaw on Tucson's north side, court records show.
Marchello, a tenured professor of animal sciences who has worked at UA for nearly 50 years, was indicted on one count of theft of property or services over $25,000; one count of fraudulent schemes; one count of computer tampering and seven counts of forgery. The April 7 indictment does not include a total for how much money has gone missing. A search warrant obtained by campus police detectives last fall put the suspected total at more than $130,000. ..................
Marchello’s indictment comes about five months after campus police searched his offices at the UA “meat lab,” where students sell butchered livestock to the public at the school's agriculture center on North Campbell Avenue.
