I got MigSwitch and downloaded that huge file that were MigSwitch dumps. I connected with internet and also Linked my Nintendo account. I'm not sure which game triggered the ban but it happened. I did not play online at all.

I have another unmodded OLED switch and my follow up question is: If I connect to internet only for game updates, but do not link Nintendo account, is there a risk of ban?

Switch firmware version is 18.1.0

ALWAYS use a new random account when messing with unsigned code, but more importantly bans are seldom a random occurrence too. I'd steer clear of that Ninty account on your other OLED, not sure if you'll flag your safe OLED but I wouldn't risk it.

Nintendo sends more that just your account id to it's servers when you try to get updates.
Blocking is done on the Switch device serial number.
So logging in with another account won't save that Switch anymore.

Yes, I am aware. That device is banned for life. For the next one, I don't want to link another Nintendo account. I just want to use it to download game updates.

You can't do that, when you don't OWN it. EVERY cart has a unique ticket/serial number, and if you found a place online to download it, then newsflash: you're not the only one. All it takes is for 2 people with the same cart to go online at the same time, and you're done. So basically it really isn't just 1 or 2 games. ANY of those games can get you banned at any time. Just not necessarily every time.

But likely, you can use the same account on the other console. It's the console that was banned. They could ban your account too, if you're not careful.

TLDR: If you didn't buy the game from the eshop or a cart, then don't even think about getting updates through the eshop. Find someone with the game update installed, and do local version matching (preferably while NOT connected to a wifi access point).

Have somebody install picofly or something similar on your oled, then you can download the updates.

I have not found anywhere this kind of service. I saw the process of soldering OLED in Youtube and it's more complicated than standard switch so I decided not to try since I would have to purchase the soldering device and materials beside picofly.

Definitely not an easy project if you're starting soldering. Screwing things up is a real threat, then it would become be a paperweight, which it isn't in it's current state.

Maybe somebody on this site can point to someone skilled in you vicinity?

I'm so glad people on this forum love wasting money to get banned and find things out the rest of us already knew would happen. Cheap entertainment (for us, but not for the OP).

Did the instructions of dumping your own games simply escape you? Was your goal to get banned and see how quickly you could do it?

Either way, enjoy your paperweight. :yaysp:
Bit harsh...........

Surely there are a large number of people who have the mig switch and will never ever go online with it.

Then for a £60 outlay you have access to over 300 top tier games via the large russian torrent file that is doing the rounds - it seems a no brainer to me to be honest.

So it's not exactly a paperweight is it - it can still play all those games offline.

Incorrect. My buddy and I from a different state gameshare our collections

Just make sure you have a complete 5/5 dump and you’re fine

The problems are coming from people having incomplete dumps and adding their own non matching files to complete and make them playable

Even with genuine dump you can still be banned. This Youtuber has first hand experience with this.

I knew the risk and took it. This is a switch that I might try modding myself. I don't play online games at all so I don't mind tbh.

The thing about this is that there might be many games that are broken with updating it.

Obviously you would get banned for using the big dump. Nintendo obviously have a copy of it and blacklisted all the IDs.
Not sure why people don't get the warning from MigSwitch that you have to use your own copies or you have a really high chance of getting banned. For all we know, Nintendo might even have ways to detected the migswitches by now.

That YouTuber was proven to be doing other shady things and having games from the dump

Nice try tho
Also explain why I’ve been doing this method for months (technically longer with SXOS) and havnt been banned yet

So again, nice try

you should havd read the thread https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-swi...unlockswitch-etc.651852/page-40#post-10453765 IF YOU USE THE DEVICE FOR PIRACY YOU WILL BE BANNED, PERIOD.

Sadly, Nintento DO NOT BAN ACCOUNTS, BAN CONSOLES, SO YOUR CONSOLE RENDER UNUSABLE.

yes if you use for piracy. if you only use YOUR OWN cartdrige dump and never go online with two or more copies at the same time ninjas are unable to tell you have a copy and then no ban.

Yes because you downloaded roms online and didn't rip your own carts. Each game cart has it's own ID so they can just ban any system that uses that same ID.

Any updates on what happened to the rumor that Nintendo is apparently logging the speeds of the gamecards and they can detect MIG using that way?

Thats so silly I doubt there’s any truth to that

Only people that have been are ones that are using public incomplete dumps or spoofing gold points

Why do you think it's silly? Nintendo uses different ways to catch unauthorized activity, so monitoring game card speeds doesn't seem that crazy to me.
It does. Not all cards are made the same. Even oxidation on the pins can cause it to re-read data and you get banned for that?

  • @ RedColoredStars:
@imafsiry You just install Rekado to your phone and then plug your Switch into your phone when it's in RCM mode. Rekado should automatically pop up on your phone and ask which payload you want to send.
