TAIPEI/BENGALURU -- India's Tata Electronics said on Friday it would acquire a 60% stake in Taiwanese electronics giant Pegatron's Indian plants, paving the way for Apple to deepen its supply chain in the South Asian country amid U.S.-China tensions.

Neither company disclosed details of the deal. But the transaction covers Pegatron's three iPhone assembly plants in India with the Taiwanese company's key managers, technicians and trained workers set to remain at the facilities for technological and operational support, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the matter.
