Methodological Notes
  • This dashboard is updated Monday-Friday. Data are published on a three-day lag in order to allow all test results to be reported.
  • Test results data come from the Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS), a NYSDOH database that contains results reported from all labs testing samples from New York State residents. Self-administered home tests reported to counties are not included in these data.
    • However, from December 30, 2021 until March 30, 2022, 24% of positive results from Onondaga County (Central New York region) reported in ECLRS were from self-administered home tests.
  • Both PCR and antigen laboratory test results are included in this analysis. Summaries are based on date of specimen collection. The previous version of this dashboard, data archived here, analyzed tests based on date reported to ECLRS. As a result, single-day totals will not fully align.
  • As of September 1, 2023, positive results on this page represent all positive tests reported to New York State, including both first infections and reinfections. Before this date, reinfections were reported on a separate dashboard. The reinfections dashboard has been archived and is available here.
  • A positive result is deemed a reinfection if it meets either of the following criteria:
    • It has been 90 days since the first positive result for the person, regardless of whether or not the person had a positive test between the two results.
    • It has been 90 days since the repeat positive result for the person, regardless of whether or not the person had a positive test between the two results.
  • Population Data: From 2020 to 2023, state population estimates used the 2018 US Census Bridged Race Categories file. On March 4, 2024 population data was retroactively updated beginning July 1, 2023 to use 2022 estimates from the US Census Population and Housing Unit Estimates Program. Population data will be updated annually on July 1. This may result in disjunctions in trend lines on that date.
