“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry #StarTrek
Sleek production values are nice, but what moves me are performances that create an emotional world I believe in. Styrofoam rocks and tomato soup-colored scrims are irrelevant when good actors deliver thoughtful dialogue and are invested in their characters. Good Trek is theatre.
When I was a teen in the 80’s/90’s, I thought the movies were Star Trek at its best, and the show, while I loved it, seemed not as good. But as I’ve gotten older I find myself drawn to the look and feel and stories of the original series, and the movies somehow feel secondary.

This was the first Star Trek photo I ever purchased, at my first convention in 1987. It took about fifteen years to get the autographs. You may notice one is missing: although I got to meet DeForest Kelley on a couple occasions, his arthritis prevented him from giving signatures.
STAR TREK AS CAMP. I've said it before, but as goofy as some of TOS may seem to modern sensibilities, it was *not* meant as camp the way something like Batman was. Within the context of an episode like The Savage Curtain, Abraham Lincoln was very much taken in earnest... 1/
I love the plucky shuttlecraft Galileo! The story of both the miniature and the set piece being built by AMT in exchange for the Star Trek model kit rights is legendary. Despite its humble blockiness it seems to fit in with the TOS aesthetic… 1/
