Club’s Values
- Field experiences are crucial for developing an appreciation for and understanding of geology.
- Everyone should feel safe, welcome, and encouraged to study geoscience. People from historically underrepresented demographics face different challenges that may discourage their participation in geology.
- Natural history includes human history. Information about California’s indigenous peoples should be part of the stories we tell about the land we are on.
- Geoscience is awesome!
Club’s Goals
- Providing free or low cost field experiences relevant to geology.
- Promoting a learning environment that supports Geology majors in understanding their coursework and refining their personal career/research interests.
- Providing a space for Geology majors to socialize and feel connected within the Earth and Planetary Sciences department.
- Inspiring passion for geoscience in students of all majors.
- Actively encouraging students from all backgrounds to participate in the club and pursue geoscience.
- Demystifying academia and pathways into pursuing geoscience professionally.
- Sharing opportunities and resources for gaining work and research experience.
- Discussing indigenous history and cultural background of field sites that we visit.
