I going to go ahead and say it's where is powers come from.... or maybe it's where you attach the plates

It's a ring that seals away it's awesome powers, when it's removed, Arceus' true form is revealed.

I think it allows him to change it to change its type, maybe it might be able to take it off.

Hello World!
Perhaps Alloute is right.
Does anyone remember reading arseus's description in the Pokedex entry?
It said something along the lines of "It created the universe with its 1000 hands"
Do you see any 1000 hands on that sprite? I think not!
It's possible what we see in the sprite is just a manifestation of arseus.
Maybe if the ring is removed, it'll revert to its original form.
When that happens, not even a master ball could save us. . .

It's said Arcues has 1,000 arms, so maybe they spawn from this or something? Just an idea. Not exactly physical arms but some sort of "psychic-like" force which takes the form of arms to move things etc.

Just an idea ;) Sorry, explained badly. I know what my idea looks like in my head but I can't word it :p

I guess the Ring is for decoration around it's body AND for the different plates where he stores the power from it.;492-s;

maybe it's the thing that hold's the plates. and keeps then in place

Well, if you ask me, I'd say this.

The pokedex entries for p/d/p are:

It is said to have emerged from an egg in a place where there was nothing, then shaped the world. -This tells us nothing, so let's move on to Pearl.

It is told in mythology that this Pokemon was born before the universe even existed. -Again, nothing, so, let's move on to the final entry, Diamond.

It is described in mythology as the Pokemon that shaped the universe with its 1,000 arms. -DING DING DING!!! Folks, we have a winner! 1,000 arms! Let's take a look a sprite: http://www.pokemon.marriland.com/platinum/pokedex/Arceus/
Yup, the ring can extend into 1,000 arms. Much like the mock groudon in Jirachi wish maker.

-just my opinion

i think it is like that wheel of life thing in the budda religion. Not offrending anybody.
like it keeps balance in the poke world.

The 1000 arms theory seems the most likely to me since it does stand out from the rest of it's body making me think that yes it is it's power source. And it does seem to fit with the elemental plates, to change the elemental properties of it's power source.

it's just an arc for decoration and it gives its "legendary look" if you know what i mean...

It probably just absorbs the power of the plates. And it would look pretty boring without it, wouldn't it?
