ByteDance pulled out of the U.S. tonight voluntarily. Taking Lemon8, CapCut, TikTok and other subsidiaries (i.e. Marvel Snap). And I realized they’re just complying with what is written in the law…which is shockingly broad. And names Tiktok / ByteDance as only one EXAMPLE of a foreign adversary operated app. This was so poorly considered and is going to percolate into a huge mess…..if XHS keeps growing in U.S. based user ship, it will be ensnared into this ban law too. what now?

Fun fact, this could affect massive Tencent games (League of Legends Wild Rift, Call of Duty Mobile etc), Hoyoverse games (Genshin Impact, Honkai Starrail) and even Xiaomi's and TP-Link's smart home apps. The PAFACA act is SO broadly written that it basically forbids ANY chinese app that tries to use location, biometrics, camera or IP address of a user.So yes, RedNote absolutely too

If y’all want to read the law: congress.gov/bill…We can’t possibly just let this sit. Not every app/service is going to divest.

Well the TT super sleuths have also already shared Jaco for Arabic speakers, vk for Russia, and I think Germany & S Korea. They’re signing up for all of them. It has been an awakening & every day Americans are learning some truths.
