Ending Discussion [Spoilers]
I absolutely love the game, and I wanted to talk a little bit about the endings, because it's been on my mind.

(Needless to say, this thread is full of spoilers.)

I thought the perfect ending was wonderful. Being able to retrace the opening segment backwards on your way home was a great payoff for finding all the scrolls.

However, I feel that what the boy does with the crown was a bit backwards between the two endings. We've seen through the game how the king was corrupted, and I feel that throwing the crown away is a noble thing to do. I know in the perfect ending he puts the crown on to travel back to town, but the idea of him slaying the king to become king, in addition to the look he gives before putting it on, makes the whole thing seem a bit more sinister.

I wouldn't say we can call them a good ending or bad ending, but what I see is that by collecting all the scrolls the boy fully learns the history of his people. The ending with all the scrolls should reflect that by having him throw away the crown and returning home. Likewise, not having all the scrolls means the boy is ignorant of the past and perhaps sees the crown as an extension of the power he's already come to weild through the course of the game.

Also, I would've liked to see more of a resolution to what happens to Oleg. By the end he's almost fully redeemed by helping you, but I feel his story doesn't have any closure. I was hoping he would play a role in the perfect ending.

What do you guys think?

Oleg DLC ho! ;)

and yes, I agree with you that the whole crown ordeal didn't feel right. Everything has to end (for the time being at least :P), and it's the ending that most often gets remembered. I too think swapping just the crown parts between endings would make more sense (to me :P)

That's the point. The game shows it is no the crown that corrupted the King, but the power. Crown was just a tool and how do you use it depends on you. Boy was the last Teslamancer and they have a different philosophy (which he learned through his journey) regarding their work and discoveries unlike outsiders (the king) as you can see from the story on the cards.

As for Oleg... well, he was deluded by King, there is not so much to add to his story.

Right, but then why does he throw the crown away in the other ending? Even if the crown is just a symbol of the power the king once had, why keep it if the option to throw it away is there? It's interesting, you're making the same point I am but coming to a different conclusion. The perfect ending requires you to have all the scrolls, so that ending is based on the boy fully understanding the history of his people, and he would know that the crown goes against his philosophy.

You don't feel Oleg was on his way to redemption? He did terrible things for the king, but he shows sadness in theater after you defeat him, he rescues the boy after he fell down the tower, and he helps the boy escape from the dungeon. Also, the passage he uses behind the painting has a drawing that makes it seem like he was planning to murder the king in his sleep, right? I just expected him to make an appearance in the perfect ending is all.

No it doesn't. Crown was made by Teslamancers for a King as a gift. It is nor bad nor good. It just one of their inventions.

???
i didn't need to feel that, it was obvious. What I said is that his story is finished, there is nothing much to add.

I see what you're getting at, but I completely disagree on both points.

I'd like to discuss it with you further, but I feel your tone is drifting toward being more argumentative than I intended for this conversation. This is just my opinion, and it seems you're steadfast in yours. It's nothing to get worked up over. Thanks for offering an opposing viewpoint, though!

Nah, it is fine, I just don't see point in discussing it since the subject is not something vague or something hard to understand.

The king was bad or good? What do you think? And why he killed teslamages?
Kein Zantezuken 25 Dec, 2013 @ 8:19am
Because they refused to feed his greed for power. Their inventions weren't meant for that:

The king wanted the teslamancers to help him take over the world. They refused, he lost, and then he started persecuting them.

I agree with Kein Zantezuken. The crown isn't what made the king evil, it was just another invention. The king was good and an ally but then became bad when the teslamancers refused to go into battle with him. Even though he won the battle, he lost a lot of his men while doing so causing him to feel betrayed. He probably felt that if the teslamancers helped him they wouldn't have suffered such a lost in men. Which caused the king to become bad, it wasn't the crown.

I just finished this game ten seconds ago, only saw the "perfect" ending (in every game, i hate to fight the boss without having find everything), and i really disliked the face the boy took when he used the crown

There's an other thing i don't understand, in the "bad" ending, the cat is in the treasure chamber, next to his statue, does that means the mother is ... dead ? (i mean in this ending)
Any explication ?

PS : sorry if my english is wrong, i'm French

Hm, and what about all the Russian references? Starting with the name itself - "grad" means "city" in Russian.

The face he makes is worrying, but I think it's just meant to show he's realised how to use it for good. That said, I'd kind of like to see him meet with his mother, to find Oleg protecting her or something. Just one last glimpse of him.

Well, the game already makes it clear with the cards and the name of the city that Teslagrad is a place in a fictional Russia, Mesher seems to be France, Motorland England, yet i'm not quite sure what real country Angloria is.

Wait, Motorland wasn't Germany?
