Japan’s Fuji TV to Hold Inquiry Over Pop Star Allegations

  • Broadcaster will make public results of independent probe
  • Activist investor said coverup could hurt shareholder value

Japanese broadcaster Fuji TV will set up an inquiry into a scandal involving a celebrity TV host, after public pressure from an activist investor and a fall in share prices.

The results of the lawyer-led inquiry will be made public, according to a statement by parent company Fuji Media Holdings Inc. Koichi Minato, the President of Fuji TV, apologized at a press conference on Friday for the company’s failure to provide an explanation, the Yomiuri newspaper and other media reported.
