Of course the absolute hell of it if that we actually are trapped with him. He's like a vengeful Japanese ghost constructed from every whiny little brother and annoying baby cousin who ever lived.
Thankfully, I can't spend more than 5 minutes getting wound up about Dune anymore because someone I like on here called it the dullest sci-fi ever written. Which I don't exactly agree with but it keeps me grounded.
I really just can't make peace with D2ne. It's an extremely challenging segment of the story to film, to be sure. But it should have been more cleanly told from the women's point of view, because the film's narrative structure of the film is all about tension between forms of womanhood.
It should be impossible to think about Paul's character in the first 2/3 of the film except as a reaction to one of the women and what each of them represent.
The second sin is that, for all of Paul's obvious fear to move south, there's basically no suggestion that he is equally in danger of losing himself to petty vengeance in the north, a concept that Chani should represent with crystal clarity. Getting the nukes should feel like measuring the abyss.

One of my fundamental Marine Corps memories is that we had one of these in the nav office of my first fleet squadron (waaaaay back in '05) and it was labeled "WORD SHITTER"
