Forward progress has been stopped and crews are working to put out hotspots within the fire perimeter and keep the wind from spreading embers, per LAFD's PIO Erik Scott on X.

All evacuation orders have been lifted as of 7:30 a.m., per LAFD. The closed section of the fire area, north of Franklin Avenue, will be open, but LAFD will still have companies working in the area and they ask residents to be careful while returning to their homes.

Update from LAFD: The majority of the Evacuation Zone for the Sunset Fire is LIFTED with the EXCEPTION of the area North of Franklin Ave from Camino Palmero St (East border) to N Sierra Bonita Ave. (West border). This area remains CLOSED until tomorrow morning due to continued LAFD operations ensuring no flare ups in the vegetation surrounding these streets. Residents are asked to be cautious when returning to their homes because firefighters are continuing to work in their neighborhoods.

Note: The evacuation zones on Genasys & the LAFD evacuation map have not yet been updated to reflect this re-population update & the evacuation areas will be adjusted on Watch Duty once the official map has been updated.

The fire was mapped at 42.8 acres by FIRIS OES Intel 24. An image of the perimeter can be viewed above & will be placed on the Watch Duty map when available.
Helicopters are continuing to assist w/ hot spots per radio traffic.
Please note that fire perimeters indicate the general burn area but do not detail the measures being taken to protect buildings and homes. Even if a building or home is within the marked fire perimeter, it doesn't necessarily mean it has been damaged or destroyed. These maps are preliminary and may be updated.

The fire has been updated to be 60 to 100 acres per Incident Command & the remaining fire mostly consists of interior burning & backing fire within the perimeter per HelCo. The second fire on Nichols Canyon was updated to be a half acre w/ no visible flames. Two copters are being released back to LA County.

There was a second separate small fire on a hillside in the 2400 block of Nichols Canyon Rd which was approximately 10ft wide per radio traffic - helicopters have knocked down that fire & are moving back to the Sunset Fire.

The fire is estimated to be approximately 50 to 60 acres per the LAFD HelCo overhead (helicopter coordinator).

An evacuation center for the Sunset Fire has been opened at the Pan Pacific Recreational Center located at 7600 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 - per the LAFD update.

The heaviest fire activity is on the south-western side of the fire where helicopters are actively working. The fire on the eastern side has active flames within the interior but the perimeter is holding well along a fire road w/ ground resources in place. The heel of the fire has had its active flames knocked down w/ smoldering still on the interior - all info per HelCo overhead (helicopter coordinator) via radio traffic.

Two additional strike teams of engines have been requested by Incident Command (10 engines). Additional LAFD ground resources are also being requested. A number of helicopters are working this fire including copters from LAFD, LA County FD & a helitanker from the Quick Reaction Force.

Evacuation Orders per LAFD: A Mandatory Evacuation Order is now in place for Laurel Canyon Blvd (on the west) to Mulholland Dr (on the north) to 101 Freeway (on the east) down to Hollywood Blvd (on the south).
Approximately 10 acres burning between Runyon Canyon and Wattles Park.
