They are on board the Hokule'a, a 60-foot double-hulled replica of an early Polynesian voyaging canoe that sailed Saturday day from Maui. And they are out to prove that the early voyagers of the Pacific could and did travel between Hawaii and Tahiti in both directions. Behind them are years of planning.
