The History

The Tulsa Race Massacre (also called the Tulsa Race Riot, the Greenwood Massacre, Tulsa Disaster) called d "the single worst incident of racial violence in American history" occurred  on May 31 and June 1, 1921.  The Greenwood district, known as "Black Wall Street" was one of the most prominent black districts in the United States.  On May 31st, violence between white and black citizens of Tulsa broke out and by June 1st, 35 blocks of the Greenwood District lay in ruins.

The OSU Tulsa University and the Library sit in the heart of what was known as the Greenwood District.  This guide focuses the researcher on resources focused on the Tulsa Race Massacre in our collection and among other research collections. While this guide is not exhaustive, it serves as a great starting point.
