What will happen to the closing Great Barrington campus of Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Bard Academy — early college programs for high-school-aged students — is still up in the air. But the town is trying to decide how much to intervene to help it get sold.

One of the obstacles the town foresees is that, due to current zoning, the property can only be used for educational purposes or for one-, two- or three-family homes. So the town’s planning board is considering allowing additional uses by creating what’s called a zoning overlay district encompassing the campus.
