The libel of "apartheid" aimed at #Israel is a distortion of the facts on the ground. During my recent visit, I witnessed firsthand how Jews and Arabs live side by side, even amidst conflict. #Hezbollah attacked Israel first on Oct 8, 2023. Their attacks further blur these communal lines, harming all residents indiscriminately.
In northern Israel, tragedies affect everyone, regardless of ethnicity or religion. Before our visit to the center, a Hezbollah rocket tragically killed two Arab neighbors of its founder Lt. Col. Sarit Zehavi . This shared grief unites, rather than divides, communities.
Minutes before I visited the Arab border town, Tarshiha, a Hezbollah drone killed the cousin of Hamid Naim, who was the town's former mayor. He is a Muslim Arab. I saw bilingual (Hebrew and Arabic) psychologists arriving on scene to provide support .
Adding to this uncertainty is Lebanon’s precarious political state, teetering on the brink of civil unrest. The spectre of Hezbollah integrating into the Lebanese army, which Zehavi thinks is a possibility, raises alarm bells in Israeli security circles.
