KJCOS
The Korean-Japanese Combined Orthopedic Symposium was established in 1990 by Prof. Duk Yong Lee of Seoul National University and Dr. Ikuo Nagaya of Nagoya to promote goodwill and academic exchanges between Korean and Japan.
Prof. Lee and Dr. Ikuo aimed to establish a steppingstone to help young professionals to expand globally by actively encouraging academic presentations and discussions between the two countries. Through these exchanges of the discipline in English, they sincerely hoped to encourage robust exchanges with other professionals around the world, and create an academic society that could enhance the cultural understanding and continuous friendship between Korea and Japan. So far, a total of 8 experts in Korea, including Prof. Lee, and nine experts in Japan, including Dr. Ikuo, have actively run and participated in the symposium each year with Korea and Japan taking turns to host the event annually.
The Korean-Japanese Combined Orthopedic Symposium has now reached its 32nd year since it was established in 1990 led by Dr. Ikuo and followed by a Symposium in Korea led by Prof. Sung-Man Rowe of Chonnam National University in 1991.
We truly believe that the continuous success of the Symposium is largely due to the support and enthusiasm of the Symposium members in both countries. The 32nd Korean-Japanese Combined Orthopedic Symposium will be hosted by Seoul National University at Swiss Grand Hotel in Seoul, Korea, from June 21st to 22nd, 2024.

The 32nd Korean-Japanese Combined Orthopedic Symposium will be hosted by Seoul National University. As mentioned above, the 32nd Symposium will take place at Swiss Grand Hotel in Seoul, Korea, from June 21st to 22nd, 2024.
While there are multiple Korean and Japanese orthopedic symposiums led by various governing bodies and organizations, it appears the conferences are not as vitalized as expected. In addition, Korean-Japanese Combined Orthopedic Symposiums run mainly within the bounds of the Symposium rather than being open and promoted to all members of the Korean Orthopedic Association or Japanese Orthopedic Association. We think it was the will of the pioneers to create a practical combined Korean-Japanese orthopedic symposium with a wider participation. Hence, next year, we plan to strengthen our efforts to promote the Symposium to more members of the orthopedic associations in our respective countries and we look forward to higher interest and participation at the Symposium next year.
