Most Donald Trump voters believe it’s time to divide the US in two, a new study has found.

University of Virginia’s Centre for Politics, with a new initiative named Project Home Fire, explored the social, political, and psychological divides between those who voted for Donald Trump and those who voted for Joe Biden in 2020.

According to the findings, four in 10 Joe Biden voters (41 per cent) agree that the states should be split between “red states” and “blue states”, while more than half of Trump voters (52 per cent) would like to separate the country.

“The divide between Trump and Biden voters is deep, wide, and dangerous. The scope is unprecedented, and it will not be easily fixed,” said University of Virginia’s for Politics Director Larry J. Sabato.

The survey found that there was distrust on both sides when it comes to voters, elected officials, and media sources in the opposing camp.

“In order to figure out ways to bridge these divides, we need to understand not just the divides themselves, but also understand the ways in which we can, together, move forward to reach common ground,” said Mr Sabato. “This project helps us do both,” said Larry Schack, a customer behaviour expert and the co-founder of Project Home Fire.

The point of the survey is to help “reveal specific pathways that couple persuade Americans on both sides of the divide to open their minds to mutually beneficial compromise”, researchers at the institution stated.

Both groups did find common ground when it came to specific policies, with 93 per cent of Biden voters somewhat agreeing and 53 per cent strongly agreeing that the nation’s electrical grid should be improved, compared to 85 per cent of Trump voters somewhat agreeing and 41 per cent strongly agreeing.

Other similar results included modernising the drinking water systems across the country (94/69 per cent Biden, 85/43 per cent Trump supporters somewhat or strongly agreeing) and investing in the construction of road, bridges, rail lines and other transport infrastructure (92/64 per cent Biden to 86/45 per cent Trump).

The biggest disparities were in raising income taxes for households earning more than $400,000 (92/68 per cent Biden, to 55/26 per cent Trump), and free kindergarten for all American children (90/63 per cent Biden and 59/29 per cent Trump), plus free college education (84/60 per cent Biden to 43/23 per cent Trump).

A split could be a good event in that the nation(s) would no longer seek hegemony and try to police the world. Less forever wars, drone strikes, no coup d'etats overseas, no more propping of dictators and right wing regimes. Maybe that is what the USA should have been from the start.

I think the "Red Half States of America" would still want to police the world, exert white supremcist issues, influence anything that they don't like, either with a coup d'etat or drone strikes . . . which ever way you look at it, it's a dystopian future, very much like The Handmaidens Tale, and Gilead !

The divide between supporters of a deeply conservative right-wing party, and their Republican enemies. Boycott this lunatic nation of God-bothering, war-mongering barbarians.

Plenty here who conflate all to a generic "lefty" animus. Tories trade on it dripping feeding a series of outrages against thev "silent majority" beit motivated by Cultural Marxism, a nebulous "wokeism" etc etc to demonise anything vaguely liberal.

Hilarious, the amount of ignorance by Americans banding around terms like Antifa, (and there is a clue there),BLM, communism, (which most of you couldn't define with a dictionary, socialism and still trying to perpetuate the lie that Chump won is why most of the rest of the world despises you.

It is similar in the UK , where our PM trots out meaningless slogans like levelling up, get brexit done and there are ridiculous phrases like woke, cancel culture, blah blah blah.

Just remember all you bigots who want to secede. Last time you fought a war to preserve the ownership of human beings and hang on to your white superiority, like POTUS 45, you lost.

A legal witch hunt against one group and a refusal to take any legal action on another. Guess which one the daily BLM Antifa riots or Republican patriots?

The split happened when 80 million votes of Republicans were ignored. The split was created by a mass media that treated them to fake news and then labelled them the 'deplorables'. The split grew while half educated unemployable woke students went on to be jobless yet collect deplorable tax payer's money. The split is seen on the dirty streets of the woke cities where the homeless and junkies abound and the inner cities where gun crime escalates and the thriving middle America and its rolling farmlands and neat towns. . The split is an ordered people proudly behind President Trump who grow food drive trucks fix plumbing and build houses and those dependent on state handouts and prop up their slow degradation by ingesting more chemical stuff . The split is between those traditional Americans who can and those woke who cannot and will not .

The USA is a failed state. It has become that way ever since the Republican Party decided that it could only hang on to power by a race to the bottom, appealing to prejudice, ignorance and deceit, with an undercurrent of threat. Sticking it to the pointy-heads may give you a feel-good buzz but it's wrecking th country. Respect for the USA under Trump has taken a major nose dive and every serious country is beginning to recognsie the USA cannot be trusted any more.
