The arrival of the New Year serves as a reminder of how close we are to the start of spring training. In less than six weeks, Red Sox pitchers and catchers will report to Fort Myers.

Early January is not mid-February. There is still time for teams to make important roster additions before things get underway, though when it comes to the free agent market, the number of impact options has already dwindled.
