Guide for student assassins/Hashishim spoilers
Some info has been moved to Hashishim#Important_information_for_the_Trials, read that part first.
First Trial
say yes
when you are in the room with the Guardian of Secrets and if he asks if you want to start the First Trial and wait, this trial is harmless.
Second Trial
say yes
when you are in the room with the Guardian of Secrets and if he asks if you want to start the Second Trial.
He will tell you a Sacred Word, write it down. This trial is harmless too.
Wait several hours, then go back and tell him the Sacred Word.
- You will have to do this four times, you need to wait at least several hours between each time, possibly half a Discworld day.
The Sacred Word may come in useful later. The Master says you can't say it before anyone else except him.
- It's unclear if he will "make good" on that promise.
Third Trial
You have to make some hasheesh and present the sample to the Master.
The recipe is told to you in the text, likewise the Secret Garden's location.inside the rightmost center row of the roof, climb down, then go west. If you prefer to climb up, it's 1 south from the casing training room.
- This, funnily enough, explains why only the Hashishim have Stirring and Cooling poison making tools and the other branches do not.
According to the Master, the exit to the Secret Garden will only reveal itself after beginning this trial.
It also contains many other plants useful for poisonmaking. Other spoiler articles on the wiki have details on them.
The recipe is:
You will need to grind cocoa beans and then melt them down. Grind some of the sacred spiked plant, too, and then add it along with some sugar. After stirring, cool the mixture down and bring a sample to me.
- You have to increase crafts.hunting.foraging and crafts.husbandry.plant.herbal (and possibly a little of adventuring.perception) to be able to gather the spoiler ingredient as I failed to gather any in the garden.
- The first gives you more chances of succeeding, while the second allows you to identify the gatherable you need.
- The gather attempt still fails even at the low guildmax of 10 levels, so training on your own is required.
- Somebody said "Alternately you could learn some more gathering! My experience with OTHER herbs & such is something like 120+ bonus is more than enough to cover everything. (probably more like 80+)"
- Attempts began succeeding, albeit not all the time, at crafts.hunting.foraging 23/113, crafts.husbandry.plants.herbs 15/79, adventuring.perception 16/84. (You will TM quite commonly it seems, that's great)
- It's also said you have to have a decent covert.items.poisons bonus for it to succeed. Mine was 39/155.
The actual recipe (I apologize if any of the steps is suboptimal):
0. Learn palm and slip if you haven't already from the guild trainer (say "Teach me please" in her room), as they will allow you to grab/recover all (or at least more) of the various component amounts if you slip up, instead of having to take bit per bit. 1. Gather at least 10 of each ingredient (cocoa beans, sugar, hasheesh) 2. Grind them all up. The stalks are too big to be stuffed all at once so put in 5 of those 3. Put everything in the dome and heat it up 4. As it's getting hotter, get a spoon from the cupboard and "stir dome with spoon" as much as you can, spam it a lot. 5. It will produce "a teaspoon of shiny pale brown fluid" 6. Use a bottle (found in the cupboard) to take the fluid out, and pour it in the mould. 7. Take everything else that's not the fluid with "get all from mould" (this may be optional but I did it to clear some of the mould's room as it was almost full) 8. "cool all in mould" 9. An ice-djinn will appear and cool it down with its tap-dancing feet. 10. The end result is "a small chocolate", "A small ball of dark chocolate, which looks strangely lumpy in places.", which can't be appraised as it's food. 11. Go to the Master with it in your inventory and you'll automatically pass. The resulting chocolate seems to have an effect duration as short as any other hashish source. This, given all the investment in it, may be a bug.
Fourth Trial
This is a simple riddle. If you're lazy, you can Google it. The answer, if you want it here, is mountains.
Fifth Trial
You "need knowledge of how to pick locks before you can attempt this trial." This means some bonus in covert.lockpick.* (there may be a specific one)
To be completed...
