7 (SEVEN!!!!!) boys were lined up behind the boy she kneed in self defense. That's seven boys blocking her from leaving the bathroom. They didn't need to do anything else beyond be there in a group of 7:1 to be threatening. Shame on the district for perpetuating "boys will be boys." They were in the wrong, and their "protest" was misguided to begin with. There is no equivalency between one teen posting a selfie of themselves in a bathroom and seven teens planning to do the same in a bathroom of the opposite gender to how they identify. The first was celebrating a monumental mo... See more

Thank you for clarifying, of course their are 2 sides to every story and as we all know people feed off the negative and tend to run with it.. My daughters attend North Pole highschool and both were members of LGBT clubs there at one point in time.. I personally feel North Pole is doing the best they can trying to navigate through such a confusing subject/time and really do listen and try to resolve issues even offering a bathroom for all genders to use so there would be no conflict!! 🤷‍♀️

Shannon Martineau The girl in the girls' bathroom had no way of knowing about the other incident. I would hope my daughter would react just as she did by kicking such a boy in the groin. Very sensible of her. She should be rewarded by the school and the incident used as a teaching moment for the boys involved.

Funny, i know many times student(s) and parent(s) have tried the "talking about issue(s)" with school(s)/faculty, and usually nothing comes of such talks. Personally i pulled one child out and home schooled because no one could give clear answers, because no one actually invested. Unfortunately, my faith in the school district as a whole... doesn't exist.

I would not feel safe sending my child to school here. Apparently Dr. Karen Gaborik thinks that girls don't have a right to physically protect themselves. She thinks that when a girl is being attacked she should somehow find the time during the attack to call 911 or find an Administrator to file a complaint! This is nothing more than victim blaming and sending a message to all girls that you are not valued, and we don't care about protecting you! Shame on you! It makes me wonder how high the rape statistics are in your district. Probably pretty high with this kind of attitude. I hop... See more

Maybe it is finally time that we start to look at our school district cell phone policy. Endless educational time is being lost due to the fact that we allow cell phones everywhere in high school. It is a constant battle for all staff to deal with discipline linked to students constantly being on their phones, students watch Netflix take videos etc during class room lessons.

I can't imagine in what circumstances the school district would think it's ok to defend yourself physically if this isn't it. Should girls just allow themselves to be assaulted? raped? That's insane that the girl was punished!!! We're not talking about her being in a classroom or hallway where she could get away and there are other people around - 7 boys come busting into the bathroom high on their own privilege, she's along so she levels one, and SHE gets in trouble? Un-freakin- acceptable.

Of course trans boys should be allowed to use the girls bathroom after he and his parents have notified the school that their son is transitioning into a girl. I am so sick of people like Shannon Martineau that want to lump these kids into the same category as perverts, peeping Toms and rapists. These are kids born with the body of one gender and the brain of another. And since, just like straight people, they can't change the way their brains are made they may change their body over time.

This school system is a complete dumpster fire. Public education is a joke. I will be ecstatic when my last son is finally done. Public schools are nothing more than Liberal Idiology indoctrination centers at this point, and conservatives have no voice or rights in any matter. These places are suppose to be for education, not a social experiment. The needs of the many are not suppose to be jeopardized by whims of a minority. Everyone suffers when you cater everything to the insanity of a minority whim. One group's rights should not trump another group's rights...... See more

What discipline did the girl receive? As far as she knew, she was protecting herself from an intrusion by a group of boys who were there to intimidate other students, including girls and sexual and gender minorities. Violence is not the answer but she didn't know she wasn't in danger considering the majority of protests to bathroom laws, especially locally, are that predators will use the inclusion rules to gain access to victims in the restroom. And then here we have a group of straight, cis-gender identifying boys attempting to... See more

This girl deserved to be expelled. Assault is never okay, not even for females. The boys undoubtedly knew nothing would be done about the transgender student taking selfies in the male bathroom. If the school district tried to discipline the transitioning transgendered student, they would've been labeled "bigoted" against LGBTQ. The boys took it into their own hands and good for them. Just like feminists stand for our rights, males are starting to do the same. If neo-feminists want true equality, well, here it is. Equality. If a biological female can enter a boys restroom without being assaul... See more

I know the girl who kneed the guy in the nuts and she stated in another comment section of the daily news miner that she was surprised and did it in instinct, she did it before she even realized what she did it. I don’t care if the boy barley made it into the female bathroom, she was coming out to see a male trying to go in. I would be scared to and kick him in the nuts as well. After all she didn’t even know why they were going into the girls bathroom. Her brain took in the information and sent the fight response as a instinct.

I read of your unfair decision to expel a girl who defended herself when a group of boys decided to enter a girls' restroom to protest a transgender student entering the boys' restroom (not a reasonable decision on their part). We here in North Carolina have our own problems with transgender issues, but the boys at your school had no reason to enter a girls' restroom. It was reasonable for a girl in that restroom to assume she might be in a dangerous situation. I see no reason for the school ... See more

You missed the part where the boys where yelling and taking pictures while 2 girls were in the restroom, and when one of the girls was trying to leave, they refused to move and pushed her back. I think this is an excellent example of the sexism, transmisogyny, and negligence no tolerance policies and our district perpetuate. It's past time for the district to get real about equitable policies that teach and defend our children, and not punish them.
