How big would a Honda-Nissan be in Southeast Asia and India?

Even with Mitsubishi's involvement, the entity would lag the top tier in each market

TOKYO -- Japanese carmakers Honda Motor and Nissan Motor -- and potentially Mitsubishi Motors -- have started merger talks, but data shows the three brands' market share currently lags rivals in Asia's key emerging markets.

The integration is being conceived to help the automakers compete in an industry whose products are rapidly growing dependent on software and in a market that is just as swiftly embracing electric, hybrid and other cleaner propulsion technologies. The fruit of their merger will be born "at full scale from 2030 onwards," according to Honda President and CEO Toshihiro Mibe.
