Houston Public Library announces extended hours for 2 libraries and 3 research centers

The Houston Public Library extended hours for two library locations and three research centers to accommodate the community's needs, library officials recently announced.

The Alief-David M. Henington Regional Library, Central Library, African American History Research Center, Family History Research Center and Houston History Research Center hours have been changed so the public can have more access to resources, services and programs, according to the news release.

Here are the hours for each location:

Alief Regional Library

  • Time: Monday and Thursday from noon-8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday from 1-5 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Location: 11903 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX 77072

Central Library

  • Time: Monday from noon-6 p.m.; Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Location: 500 McKinney St., Houston, TX 77002

African American History Research Center

  • Time: Monday from noon-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday from noon-7 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Location: 1300 Victor St., Houston, TX 77019

Family History Research Center

  • Time: Monday from noon-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday from noon-7 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Location: 5300 Caroline St., Houston, TX 77004

Houston History Research Center

  • Time: Monday from noon-5 p.m.; Tuesday-Wednesday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Location: 550 McKinney St., Houston, TX 77002

"This is operation change is not just about convenience," John Middleton,  interim chief operating officer, said in a statement. "The new hours are about our commitment to making the material available to the public. Whether it's for researching, accessing technology, participating in our programs or simply finding a quiet place to study or read, we are here to serve the community."

The Houston Public Library has also provided the following services: 

  • Passport services available
  • Free WiFi and computer
  • Books, e-books, audiobooks, DVDs and more
  • Educational and recreational programs
  • Research assistance and resources
  • Meeting and study rooms
