hi, im really terribly sorry but i've *temporarily* pulled the penguin's memory video. its my worst performing in more than two years and i suspect its because i made the mistake of putting the word "beer" in the title--despite youtube making absolutely no mention of that as a problem. no explicit demonetization or anything, it's otherwise completely unprecedented. the system is completely opaque. i'll put it up again in a couple weeks or something.
not to be too revealing but this is a complete nightmare scenario. i was supposed to be on a plane to see my family right now but had to cancel so i could start work on another video to get something else out the door asap. this one was supposed to allow me to seek treatment for an ear that's at risk of permanent damage. im at a total loss. just trying again is about the only thing i can think to do. thanks for your patience, and to the warm reception from those who saw it while it was up. i hope you have a good rest of the year❤️

since people are asking: patrons can pledge more than a dollar at the one dollar tier, i just have the one so nobody is excluded from any content because they cant pledge more. also, my bandcamp ( https://smilingbroadly.bandcamp.com ) is the closest thing i have to a direct place to donate. but in both cases i really don't want anyone to feel an obligation to salve what's ultimately an issue systemic to youtube as a platform. thank you.

Dang, I was saving this video until I could really pay attention because every minute is so rich! I considered watching it semi-distracted because I know it benefits creators to watch close to the release date, but also don't want those algorithm factors to influence my watching, or lead to more passive consumption. It was/is a fantastic video. It embodied/s something I really love in your videos, where you march us down every tangent as far as you reasonably can, and find unexpected crumbs of joy and fascination. It’s like an ideal conversation with an ADHD person, where they were able to pause time to meticulously factcheck and research everything that caught their fancy.
For what its worth, its my personal favorite. My out of touch ass could actually find this one some place movie so i took that opportunity and watched it after watching your video. Hazel that was something i really needed to see, oh my god i haven't cried a good cry like that in years, since i was able to be on hormones the way i should be. It felt like a bit of my grief died to stay in penguin's memory and i genuinely feel a lot better after the fact.
There's so much to say about the film without NEEDING to lean into the beer thing in the title, so i'm sure since that's the thing that's causing the trouble then a title change should do it. I know i'll be watching the reupload again.

this video was on my frontpage and in featured but the thumbnail and title i never realized it was you and tbh those two thing combined I wasn't interested than i finally saw the hazel underneath and immediately started watching. I got 30 mins in before work it was excellent couldn't wait to watch more than it was private :( so excited for when its back

I just went to go watch it today and couldnt find it. Ive been so busy the last week or so, and really didnt have time to take it in until now after Xmas. I wouldnt be surprised if thats the case for alot of others as well. I even was thinking "i hope engadgement isnt down" on it too. I love your stuff and you work harder than anyone, and I love that you fight to keep the scarecrow going! I hope whatever medical needs you have get sorted correctly and affordably! This is such a shame because it was an awesome video and I was looking forward to rewatching it while I worked on stuff, the algorithm has been exceptionally cruel to a lot of creators recently, I’ve seen channels fluctuate between 200k and 500 views and videos that used to consistently get hundreds of thousands getting only a few thousand. Super frustrating as a viewer when the algorithm decides you can’t see the people you follow. I turned on all notifications and left a comment hoping to boost engagement but it’s such a bummer. Seems like in order for a video to do well they want you to beg for engagement and it just feels so grimy

It was a good video. I think you are the best niche interest youtuber for what it's worth. I've seen all of your videos multiple times and now I've been putting them on a projector on mute for vibes while I play guitar. I wish I had money to give cause your videos are a presence in my life that isn't really replaceable.
