Alchemy was completely reworked in 0.7.0, allowing for it to be greatly expanded! There are over 50 recipes that can be made, and each has their own niche use. Alchemy can be performed either at an alchemy pot in laboratory rooms or by using the Alchemist's Toolkit.

The best viewing experience can be found by reading this page in its desktop mode.

Alchemical Energy[]

Alchemy Guidebook Page
Energy
Many recipes require crystalized alchemical energy, which is produced by deconstructing most consumable items in an alchemy pot. As a few examples: seeds generate 2 energy, stones generate 3, scrolls and potions each generate 6.

A collection of small magical crystals, filled with alchemical energy.
These crystals are the most common ingredient in alchemy recipes and can be produced at an alchemy pot by scrapping consumable items.

Most alchemy recipes cost alchemical energy to perform. This energy can be found in the dungeon in the form of energy crystals. A Stack of 4-6 crystals can be found in each laboratory room including hidden ones. Just like gold coins, energy crystals occupy no space in the inventory.

However, the amount of energy found this way is insufficient for large-scale crafting. Additional energy can be obtained by breaking down consumables at an alchemy pot or with an Alchemize spell. It's also produced by the Alchemist's Toolkit as long as the player is gathering experience.

Alchemy Recipes[]

The alchemy system has many different recipes. Most of them allow the player to strengthen, transform, or combine various consumable items. All recipes can be discovered in game by reading the alchemy guide. Crafting an item is always possible, regardless if the respective recipe has been found or not.

Below it is a list of all recipes categories.

Brewing Potions[]

Creating Potions
We will start with the most iconic alchemy recipe: Place any three seeds into an alchemy pot to brew a potion!

Every seed type has a potion counterpart, and the potion you create may relate to one of the seeds used. Using multiple of the same type of seed will increase the chance for this to occur.

Potion(Shattered)

Like in vanilla PD it's possible to brew a random potion by combining 3 seeds. This can produce either a potion associated with one of the seeds used or a completely random potion. The chance for a random potion being created grows if multiple different seeds are used.

Chance for a random potion being produced
Matching seeds used random potion chance
1 50%
2 25%
3 0%

If all 3 seeds used are the same, crafting the potion also identifies it. This recipe can be used to produce an additional Potion of Strength if one of the ingredient is a Seed of Rotberry, but this only has a ~25% chance of success (with the other two seeds being matching seeds).

Creating runestones[]

Creating Runestones
Mixing a scroll into an alchemy pot will imbue its magic into two rocks within the pot. This creates runestones!

Unlike potions, scrolls can't be created through alchemy. Instead they can be broken down into 2 corresponding runestones. Scrolls can be broken down to runestones even when unidentified, which identifies the scroll.

Cooking[]

Not all energy recipes are especially mystical however. These recipes more resemble traditional cooking than alchemy.

A few food items can only be obtained through alchemy. The player can turn Mystery Meat into Stewed Meat, making it safe to eat. It's however no different from Chargrilled Meat. A Mystery Meat, a Ration of food, and a Pasty can be combined into a Meat pie. In addition to restoring as much satiety as the ingredients combined, it also speeds up natural regeneration for 450 turns. Finally, a Blandfruit can be cooked with any seed. This makes the item edible and grants it the effect of the associated potion

Exotic Alchemy[]

Exotic Potions
Potions can be mixed with energy to create exotic potions. They have more powerful effects, but are often useful in different ways.

Exotic Scrolls
Exotic scrolls can be made with some energy and a scroll. They're a bit stronger and more expensive than exotic potions.

Scroll-Exotic

The player can convert any potion or scroll into its exotic counterpart. Exotic potions and scrolls have an effect somewhat similar to their non-exotic counterpart, but more powerful. These items are obtainable mainly through alchemy as they only appear in the dungeon as Ring of Wealth rewards or when the player has the Exotic Crystals trinket.

Equipment recycling[]

Enhancing Weapons
Some of the lighter or more magical weapons can be used in alchemy!

Each thrown weapon produces enough liquid metal to fully repair another weapon of the same level and tier.

One wand will produce enough arcane resin to upgrade two wands of the same level, but no higher than +3.

While most recipes utilize consumable items as ingredients, these recipes let you recycle unwanted wands and thrown weapons.

Liquid metal[]

Shattered-Liquid metal
Liquid Metal
When poured over a thrown weapon, this magical liquid will fill into the cracks and tears from use, restoring the thrown weapon to perfect condition!

A tier 1 weapon requires 10 liquid metal to be fully repaired, a tier 5 weapon requires 30. Each upgrade also doubles the amount of metal needed.

Liquid metal cannot be used to repair the tips on tipped darts.

Any missile weapon can be recycled into 5 * (tier + 1) * 2^level * (0.25 + 0.0075 * durability left[%]) pieces of liquid metal. You can fully repair another thrown weapon at the cost of 5 * (1 + tier) * 2^level pieces of liquid metal.

Arcane resin[]

Arcane Resin
This fine powder shimmers between shades of purple and white. It can act as an amplifier to magical energies, increasing the level of wands when it is applied to them!

Upgrading a wand costs 1, 2, or 3 resin depending on the wand's initial level. Resin can upgrade wands to a maximum of +3.

Resin upgrades are overridden by scrolls of upgrade and similar items, and do not apply when imbuing a wand into the Mage's staff.

Any wand can be recycled into 2 * (level + 1) pieces of arcane resin. You can spend level + 1 pieces to upgrade any wand up to level 3.

Enhanced bombs[]

Enhanced Bombs
A standard black powder bomb can be mixed with a specific item to create an enhanced bomb.

Bombs can be enhanced by combining them with certain potions or scrolls. This will give them additional power based on the potion/scroll besides regular explosion. Bombs can also be combined with boss drops to give them increased blast radius. Enhanced bombs can be obtained exclusively through alchemy.

Brews and Elixirs[]

Brews and elixirs
Brews and elixirs are advanced potions which provide a variety of effects with a single use.

Brews and elixirs are greatly empowered versions of potions created by mixing a potion with alchemical catalyst or blob of goo. They have very powerful effect or multiple effects at once. While brews cause negative effects and are supposed to be used on enemies, elixirs have positive effects and should be used on you or your allies. Brews and elixirs can be obtained exclusively from alchemy except for _ _, which can spawn as a Ring of Wealth reward.

Spells[]

Spells
Spells are made from scroll-based recipes, and provide a variety of effects with multiple uses.

Spells are crafted by combining various consumables with an arcane catalyst or a cursed shard and an effect characters, items or environment. Individual spells usually aren't usually as powerful as the scroll used to create them, but most recipes produce more than one. Spells can be obtained exclusively from alchemy except for Unstable Spell, which can spawn as a Ring of Wealth reward and Alchemize, whic can be purchased in shops.
