Radiology, Oncology Service Provider Sued Over Data Breach

Akumin Operating Corp. negligently failed to safeguard its outpatient radiology and cancer patients’ sensitive health and personal data from a ransomware attack, a proposed class action says.

Akumin’s faulty cybersecurity measures led to the exposure of patient data in the breach it learned about Oct. 11, 2023, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Names, home addresses, payment card and financial account information, were stolen along with diagnosis information, treatment information, and biometric data, it said.
