Jean Richard

Jean Richard (1914 - 1984) was active/lived in Texas, Oregon / France, Poland.  Jean Richard is known for Landscape, cityscape, still life, portraits harbor and canal scene painting.

Jean Richard was born in Lwow, Poland to a Polish father and French mother on January 7, 1914. His birth name was Ryszard Onyszkiewicz. He relocated to Paris during the Second World War. Following the war, he painted his way around the whole of the continent for 16 years.
 
In 1956, Richard moved to the United States and established himself in New York. Running low on funds, he bartered paintings from bundles of his completed canvases brought over from Europe, in exchange for living expenses and items to furnish his apartment.
 
Richard moved to Dallas, Texas in 1962. Over the next four years, Richard taught and sold paintings from his studio there and toured Texas, Mexico and South America, exhibiting his works and searching for inspiration. He also undertook at least one working trip to Europe during this time.
