Initiatives for SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the successor to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) formulated in 2001 and are international goals aimed at a sustainable and better world by 2030, as described in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015.
It consists of 17 goals and 169 targets, and pledges to "leave no one behind" on the planet.
The SDGs are universal not only for developing countries but also for developed countries themselves, and we at Japan Gas Line Co., Ltd. will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society advocated by the United Nations.
-
(1) Philosophy of NIPPON GAS LINE Corporation
- NIPPON GAS LINE Co., Ltd. was established in 1962 as an LPG transportation company, and established a system as a company specializing in marine transportation in 1966. Since then, based on the management philosophy of "Let's contribute to society through our business with the recognition and pride that this is a business that is strongly needed by the international community and people's lives," we have expanded the field of transportation not only LPG but also asphalt and biomass fuel in ocean-going shipping, and continue to be responsible for the marine transportation of resources widely needed by the international community with the times, as the only operator specializing in LPG in domestic shipping. In order to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society, we will continue to fulfill our mission of providing a stable supply of clean energy through marine transportation.
-
(2) Environmental Initiatives
- NIPPON GAS LINE Co., Ltd. has been transporting LPG by sea for 60 years since it was first widely used in Japan as a clean energy alternative to oil. In recent years, we have taken the lead in responding to environmental issues demanded by society, such as building the first electrically propelled LPG carrier in Japan in 2010 and transporting PKS (palm shells), which are attracting attention as a renewable energy fuel in the ocean-going business.
We will continue to pursue the use and transportation of next-generation clean energy toward the realization of a carbon-neutral and decarbonized society by 2050, and will respond to environmental issues and social demands by connecting a virtuous cycle of the economy and the environment. To this end, we will collaborate with a wide range of sectors of society, both domestically and internationally, industry, government, and academia, and actively engage in research, development, and investment in anticipation of the ongoing energy transition.
-
(3) Initiatives for Safety and Security
- Based on its safety policy, which states that "we will make the utmost effort to address safety and environmental issues and aim to be a sincere and fair company that is strongly needed by society," NIPPON GAS LINE Co., Ltd. attaches particular importance to safety initiatives in its daily operations.
In order to realize our safety policy, all ships and owners have obtained a Certificate of Conformity (DOC) and a Certificate of Safety Management (SMC) in accordance with the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) to establish a safety management system. In addition, the Safety Cooperation Association with shipowners holds regular meetings four times a year, including a general meeting, and strives to raise safety awareness by sharing information on accidents and near-misses through regular visits to vessels in operation and annual safety meetings.
Going forward, we will continue to actively pursue the latest technologies to ensure safety and promote safety activities from both software and hardware perspectives with the aim of achieving zero accidents and troubles.
-
