New to DevOps? Here’s the One Thing I Wish I’d Known.
DevOps RoadMap?
When I first started learning DevOps, I was so excited that I tried to learn everything all at once. Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, you name it. But as the weeks went by, I realized I was feeling more lost than inspired. My attempt to grasp every tool in DevOps had left me completely overwhelmed, and I wasn’t truly absorbing anything. Eventually, I hit a wall. I couldn’t keep going at that pace, so I made the tough choice to stop and take a break. For three months, I stepped back from DevOps entirely. This break helped me reset, and I spent that time rethinking how I wanted to learn and where I wanted to focus.
Here are the biggest lessons I learned from that experience and why I think a slower, more intentional approach can make all the difference:
1. Start with the Basics and Build a Foundation
One of the first things I realized was that I’d been trying to build a DevOps toolkit without any real foundation. I was learning what each tool did, but I didn’t understand the why behind them. Taking a break helped me refocus on the fundamentals. I spent time understanding key DevOps concepts like version control, continuous integration, and infrastructure as code before diving back into the tools themselves…
