The 3rd edition of Research.com ranking of the best scientists in the
arena of Earth Science was created using data
consolidated from various data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for estimating the citation-based metrics were
collected on 21-11-2023. Position in the ranking is based on a
scholar’s D-index (Discipline H-index), which
only includes publications and citation
metrics for an examined discipline.

The scope of our Earth Science research
Our best scientists ranking is a reliable
lineup of leading scholars from the area of
Earth Science, established by means of a meticulous
study of 166,880 scientists discovered
from multiple bibliometric data sources. For the area of
Earth Science, as many as 21809 scholars were
examined.
What is D-index approval threshold for Earth Science
The D-index threshold for including a scientist to be
examined is established at 30 if
the majority of of their publications are in the field of Earth Science. The
inclusion factors for scientists to be
considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, proportion
of the contributions made within the given area
plus the awards and achievements of the researchers. The
D-index threshold for considering top researchers is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of scholars
projected for each discipline whilst
making sure that the top 1% of leading scholars are
incorporated into the list. There should be a proximity of
30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index.
Other verification rules
As our leading goal is to make sure that only
actual researchers are listed in
our ranking we believe that raw data are never
supposed to be an absolute tool to evaluate the
contributions of scientists. Because of that
we manually check every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
broad range of credible sources. Even though it’s not a
factor defining a scholar’s position in
Research.com ranking, the quantity of papers published in
major journals and conference proceedings should be a
credible secondary implication of their contribution to research in a
given area of science. Position in the ranking is
based on each researcher’s D-index
with the help of metrics gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-established bibliometric
databases of this type available to the research community. A
comprehensive explanation of our research process
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our mission is to inspire scholars,
entrepreneurs and politicians
worldwide to examine where top experts are heading
and to provide a way for the whole scientific community to
