Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories - PocketStation minigame region change

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories - PocketStation minigame region change 2024-12-19

Target: savefile BISLPMP86398-YUGIOH
Use the correct patch for your version of the game...
(each localized version has a unique save game serial - the mini game is hardcoded to check only one.)

DIY: go to 0x2354; edit "BISLPM-86398".

- How to obtain this file -

Easy way:
Boot up "yugioh shin duel monsters" (NTSC-J version)
Go to options -> download the game to your Pocketstation.
Extract the PocketStation save/minigame using programs such as "ulaunchelf" (PS2) "memcardrex" (WIN)

Hard way (no need to have a modded/ntsc-j console):
Dump the NTSC-J version of the game.
Open it on an hex editor & go to 029C1A98.
We need to retrieve 16 blocks.
Pattern is: 2048 OK + 304 NG (garbage) + 2048 OK + 304 NG etc.
Last block ends at 029CAC68.
Now you have the Pocketstation mini game (size 32768 byte); name the file BISLPMP86398-YUGIOH
Sadly there's no way to get a copy the mini game using a dump of the localized version (Well, I only tested the PAL-ITA version)
Some data/code remain (obviously the location is different, but you can easily identify the 2k blocks) but it's overwritten over.
The mini game would start, but then the Pocketstation would crash whenever I selected an option.
Was still untranslated & with corrupted graphics. Oh well.
