Yes you read that right, Acustica Audio is delighted to present their new baby Ultramarine3 or UM-3. Their first mid-side and stereo mastering compressor based on core9 audio engine.



Ultramarine3 is a very versatile mastering tool providing a lot of possibilities to shape your sound with gorgeous graphical user interface. The shape control, "SHMod", can shape the compressor attack behavior allowing a fine-tune customize of any audio source attack. Another innovative feature, that also exponentially increases the compressor versatility, is the continuously variable side-chain filter. This plug-in is equipped with a dry and wet control to determine the proportion of mix between the original dry and processed wet signals.



Core9 Features:
• Variable speeds on vector nodes improving the sound quality of the compressors and allowing to reach very fast speeds and precision.
• Envelope followers based on control sources.
• Queue messages used for several widgets like knobs, improving Acqua Effect plug-ins behavior, control, and stability.
• Hidden components fault-tolerant inside Nebula/Acqua engine to minimize crashes and bugs.
• New AAX format wrapper with better balanced CPU load.
• Core9 engine linked with NAT4 allowing full automatic compressor sampling and deconvolution.
• Switch-mode optimization reducing CPU loading.
• Lazy loading pattern to improve objects loading.

Preamp Section:
• Preamp simulation: enable (lamp ON), and disable (lamp off).

In Out Section:
• Input trim: from -24dB to +24dB. Signal level inside compressors and preamplifier is trimmed and compensated automatically in output.
• Output: from 0 to +24 dB.
• Dry/Wet: from 0% to 100%.

Compressor Section:
• Left-lat threshold: from 0 dB to 64 dB.
• Right-vert threshold: from 0 dB to 64 dB.
• Left-lat time constant: from 1 to 6. Position 5 and 6 are program dependent release.
• Right-vert time constant: from 1 to 6. Position 5 and 6 are program dependent release.
• Operational compression mode (AGC): stereo or mid-side (lat/vert).
• Control link: enable and disable.
• Internal side-chain filter: from off to 200 Hz.

These acqua plugs look very realistic.
I'm wondering how much of a Cpu load just the graphics alone take up.
Considering the already compromised Cpu performance of the plugs, to me it would be foolish to place any importance on how it looks if it is going to add a considerable Cpu load on top of what's already a Cpu heavy plug.

i doubt the gui`s is using CPU, it could perhaps use a slight extra ram
but not much i think

i really like the Flucti Mew on a personal level
so i think i`ll pass because i cant simply afford Ultramarine v3

if its completely free of bugs and not to hard on CPU i will maybe reconsider it and save up for it
if it beats my other comps i got on certain tasks

but right now my money is on Sand if the price tag is right for my wallet

you are right. For modern computer the GUI is close to zero load. AA gui is same as any other GUI, static background and some knobs and buttons in png format, all with low number of frames (especially with AA products). It is a task for PC386

I'm in the same boat. The presale discount and my coupon are making it hard to pass on though. This is one of the few Acquas that I dont own.....

The GUI is pure PORN , I'm going to wait a bit to try the demo because I want to buy SAND first and don't want to empty my pocket before it.

Really like the tone and compression action of this one. Seems to really blow up a sound or group of sounds and makes them sound bigger than life.

I can certainly tell the release is program dependant. It doesn't have that weird "slightly off" feeling timing-wise that most software compressors exhibit. Very transparent release and a nice, smacky vari-mu attack.

Core8 was released to the public five months ago on April 1. Pink was the first plugin to use it. So in terms of technology, five months really is not a short period of time.

I appreciate the detailed engine upgrades. I don't exactly know what they all mean but it looks like ian improved experience overall.

I remember back when I bought the IK multimedia version of this compressor and they said that just running sounds through it improved them. So I'm definitely going to test this out without any gain reduction.

More or less each 6 months

March 2015, core 6: coalesced nebulas.
A nebula eq needs less latency and load.
First product was ivory, released at end of March

September 2015, core 7: zl engine
Reduced latency, faster speed, zero latency playing
First product was navy, released at end of September

March 2016, core 8: compressor attack/release shapes and dynamic loading
Compressors have a better attack and release envelopes. Equalizers and big nebula sessions load faster because they load a splitted section of the program
First product was pink. Technically it was released on 1st April, but because a delay (it was planned for March but we were a week late )

September 2016, core9: vectorial asynchronous speed and ultrasync
Minimized interpolation errors and very fast envelope shape calculation in compressors - so more accurate shapes at the same cpu load, shapes are recalculated at microsecond rates now while they were in the millisecond range before. Each node can feature a different control rate speed, so we have a better granularity and we can increase the working speed of sections of attack still keeping the same cpu load on other elements. About ultrasync, minimization of interpolation errors mean less sampling errors to fix, better morphing between samples (the best possible, giving initial sampling steps)
First product will be sand, tbr around end of September. Technically Ultramarine upgrade is based on core9, because that section of the engine was available in August.

Really marvelous soundng and looking plugin. As a long time Nebula user and betatester I believe Core9 brings really revolutionary behaviour. This comp now finally really does behave like hardware.

Though by now the free Tan was my favorite. In a recent SSL Buss Compressor test it was the one which sounded by far the closest to a real deal. Acustica really are moving things forward.

Yes, i bought Ultramarine yesterday and i tried it shortly on the mixbus (1-2 db reduction)...without apparent effort it glued everything together, removing the digitized edges...sort of a dark chocolaty color. Classy sound.

it appears sidechain control does not link for me. all other controls appear to link okay with link engaged.

Please tell me that the most successfull plugin: Pink (channell strip and comps) will get Core 9 treatment and also FIR clipper.

control link is not actually controlling sidechain. It was a choice we did in order to minimize errors and crash bugs before the release.
We'll check if we can add it to the list

please tell me all core 7 Acquas will go core 9 and get a re sample, then i will buy them all

As a Pro Tools AAX user I've only just been introduced to the world of Acqua but have yet to jump in as it's been "We've released Core7 finally with AAX support" *demos NAVY* impressed - let me just hit PURCHA... oh wait, Core8 is out and is even better... *demos PINK*... ok, works even better on mac aax, now I'm definitely going to press the PURCHAS... oh wait, Core9 is out and is even better!!!!

Really impressed with the developement but maybe I'll just wait for CoreX

if core 9 is close to perfect, that is good enough for me

some of the core 7 acquas is left in the dust if you ask me compared to whithe2 which is the only mastering eq i like the top end of of the Acquas for the master
so far
i haven't tried scarlet3 yet though because im saving the rest of my money for Sand core9 lol

but i will demo scarlet3 when i can afford it
i refuse to demo acquas i could turn out to love and dont have the cash hehe

Magenta is not on pair when compared to the nebula version from Alex B
green is left in the dust compared to nebula Tim P`s surge eq in sound quality
and Nebula 1081 sounds better than Navy
so yes , get them upgraded and re sampled and more snappy and efficient like whithe2 and scarlet3

do that and AA will have many more sales from new customers

i want nebula quality in the acquas,
the whithe2 is very very close to that sound quality and i love it on buses, when it gets even better in core9 it will be nebula quality,
and one day acquas could actually sound even better than nebula and even HW on core x lol
but for now nebula is the bar to beat
or at least to be on the same level with, sound vice

love the new Acqua comp tech though so its mostly about the eq`s
