  • Shez: You know, Felix, I've been thinking. Actually, never mind.
  • Felix: What? You can't say that and then not tell me. Come on, out with it.
    • Choice 1: Tell him.
    • Choice 2: Don't tell him.
      • Shez: I dunno, I really shouldn't. Just forget I said anything.
      • Felix: Is your conscience getting in the way? Say it.
  • Shez: OK, it's just...even though you never show it, I can tell you really care about Dimitri and the others.
  • Felix: Urk!
  • Shez: You all right there, Felix? There's no reason to get all choked up over it.
  • Felix: It's your fault for saying something so ridiculous.
  • Shez: Hey, you're the one who asked. But it's true, isn't it? I know I'm right.
  • Felix: And what proof do you have?
  • Shez: Well for one, you move way better when you're fighting alongside them.
  • Felix: Hmph. That's only because I've known them so long I can predict their every move. The boar always rushes straight into enemy lines, so I have to be ready to cover him. Of course, few can survive one of his mad dashes. But I can't just leave him alone. The man doesn't give his own safety a second thought. We don't coordinate, though. I just stick around to make sure the coast is clear for him to run wild.
  • Shez: Huh. But when you're fighting with Ingrid, you're usually the one who ends up charging forward.
  • Felix: Yes, because her pegasus is an easy target for enemy archers. It's better for me to dash ahead first and eliminate any potential threats. Not that she's incapable of dodging an arrow or two. But she loses sight of her surroundings in the heat of battle. If she advanced before I did, a cloud of arrows would be the end of her.
  • Shez: Uh-huh. So then why do you always get surrounded when you're fighting with Sylvain?
  • Felix: Because the braggart always insists on showing off. Though if nothing else, he does have the skill to fight his way out of any bind.
  • Shez: Sounds like that's not part of your strategy, then. But you'd still never pull it off if you didn't trust each other.
  • Felix: Hmph. It's all natural for a soldier.
    • Choice 1: Praise his teamwork.
      • Shez: Honestly, it's impressive how well you work with everyone. I should take a page or two out of your book and learn more about the people I fight with. Maybe having a better grasp on their personalities would help me coordinate our movements better.
      • Felix: Who knows. You're welcome to try, at least.
    • Choice 2: Admit you're jealous.
      • Shez: Y'know, I'm kinda jealous. Is that how things are when you've known someone your whole life?
      • Felix: Don't ask me. You could reach the same conclusions about their combat tendencies in just a few battles.
  • Felix: If you've already got a good read on me, the others shouldn't be an issue. Anyway, we're done here. Talking to you is exhausting.

B Support[]

  • Felix: What's wrong? Your footwork is even sloppier than usual.
  • Shez: You noticed that, huh? It's... nothing. There's just been a lot on my mind lately, is all. And I was kinda lost in thought when you lunged at me, so I couldn't really react too well.
  • Felix: Training isn't the time for idle contemplation. You're worthless as a sparring partner if you let your mind wander. Not to mention that you do the same thing in actual battles. Getting distracted when you're training is one thing. Do it out there and the enemy will cut you down without hesitation.
  • Shez: ...
  • Felix: We've been through this before. If there's something on your mind, just come out with it already.
    • Choice 1: Tell him.
      • Shez: I was just thinking that you have a pretty good read on me now, too.
      • Felix: Hmph. It was obvious something was wrong from the way you were fighting. And this is just payback for last time, so no complaining.
      • Shez: Oh, don't worry. I'm not.
    • Choice 2: Don't tell him.
      • Shez: Nope, nothing to say this time. I promise.
  • Felix: If you say so.
  • Felix: There's still something I don't understand, though. Where did you learn to fight like that? You clearly don't move like a knight, but I've never seen a mercenary use those techniques, either.
  • Shez: I guess you could say I taught myself. I didn't really have one teacher who showed me everything. If anything, I just kinda picked stuff up as I moved from one band of mercs to the next.
  • Felix: That explains it. I was wondering why your style was so hard to read. Both knights and mercenaries use a standard set of battle-tested tactics. A book they all play by. But you're not bound to any single convention. I suppose that's what I found strange.
  • Shez: Probably doesn't help that I don't have to draw my sword like everyone else. When I think about it like that, it might've been for the best that I taught myself instead of subscribing to a particular school of thought.
  • Felix: A unique style, all your own. Fascinating. Teach me.
  • Shez: Uh, I'd be glad to, but I'm the only one who can use my sword. It won't be easy to replicate.
  • Felix: That's for me to decide. If nothing else, I can adapt your moves for my own purposes. The more styles I know, the better.
    • Choice 1: Agree to teach him.
      • Shez: If you say so. I dunno how this is gonna go, but I'll do what I can. Oh, and you can teach me in exchange. The more styles the better, right?
    • Choice 2: Refuse.
      • Shez: Trust me, it's not worth it. Nothing I do is special enough to pass on to someone else.
      • Felix: Fine. Then keep training with me instead. If you don't want to teach me, I'll just have to steal your moves myself.
      • Shez: I'd like to see you try. But know I'll be stealing yours right back.
  • Shez: You fight sorta like a knight but also sorta not. I mean that in a good way, of course. I'm not sure how to put it. It's almost like you react to the situation as it plays out. So yeah. If we can combine our two styles somehow, I bet we'll both end up stronger for it.
  • Felix: Maybe so.

A Support[]

  • Shez: He's making a run for it, Felix! Don't let him get away!
  • Felix: Not a chance! He's mine!
  • Shez: Nice work out there. It's a real confidence boost knowing you have my back.
  • Felix: I could say the same for you. Now that I know your style better, I have less trouble predicting your movements.
  • Shez: Glad to hear it. Guess you must have a pretty good read on me by now, huh?
  • Felix: Hmph. On your sword, perhaps.
  • Shez: There you go again. Y'know, I've gotten a good grasp on the way you think. It's like you decide on a role for yourself, then do whatever you can to see it through. Of course, the role changes depending on the situation, and who's fighting beside you. Sometimes you attack, sometimes you defend. It's incredible just how versatile you are.
  • Felix: No need for compliments. That's simply how I was taught to be.
  • Shez: Really? By who?
  • Felix: My father. He may prefer a spear or magic, but he's more than capable with a sword in his hands, too.
  • Shez: Right. Makes sense it'd be Rodrigue. His weapon of choice might be different, but he adapts himself to the flow of battle just as well as you do. Probably better, actually.
  • Felix: The style didn't start with him, though. It's something the leaders of our house have passed down throughout the ages. House Fraldarius has been the king's lance and shield for generations. Ever since the time of Kyphon, sworn friend of the great King Loog. At times we've been sent to defeat the crown's enemies. At others, we've held back to defend the throne. I admit the style has its uses, idiotic history of blind faith aside.
  • Shez: Huh. So that's why you fight the way you do. You're indespensable [sic], Felix. Not just to Dimitri, but to everyone else, too.
  • Felix: Heh. I suppose if I'm a lance and shield, you would be like some kind of projectile. An arrow, or a stone.
    • Choice 1: Accept the compliment.
      • Shez: You're saying I'm good at taking the enemy by surprise, right? You sure could learn to be more direct with your compliments, you know.
      • Felix: You can interpret it that way if you want. In any case, you're just as important to this army as I am.
    • Choice 2: Act confused.
      • Shez: Wait, is that supposed to be a compliment? What's that even mean?
      • Felix: Do you need me to draw you a picture? You're always coming out of nowhere and throwing the enemy off guard.
  • Felix: Between that sword of yours and the way you can shapeshift, nobody ever knows what you'll do next. Some might say your powers are dangerous, but I think they provide the perfect element of surprise.
  • Shez: Huh. Glad to hear you say so.
  • Felix: There's one fault I can't get past, though. You can never stay focused during battle. It's almost like you're talking to someone while you fight. Someone in your head that... Hey. What's with the smile?
  • Shez: Huh? Oh, sorry. I'm just really happy we've gotten to know each other so well. Only a true friend would be that open with their criticism. Thanks, Felix.
  • Felix: Say what you will. That's the last piece of advice I'm ever giving you.
  • Shez: He wasn't really mad, was he? It's so hard to tell sometimes.

  • Dimitri: ...
  • Felix: How long are you going to keep staring blankly like an idiot? You should eat.
  • Dimitri: You're right. My apologies.
  • Felix: Let me guess, you're in a tizzy about how best to make use of the church's forces—or maybe you're just worried about how our forces will survive the winter. Well, knock it off. A good leader knows when to let their vassals do the worrying for them.
  • Dimitri: Is that why you left your uncle in charge of House Fraldarius?
  • Felix: Yes—though I've been returning to the territory the moment any issues arise with his governance.
  • Dimitri: And your mother? Is she in good health? I imagine it's quite difficult to manage all the family squabbles on her own.
  • Felix: Oh, she's fine—she's good at that sort of thing. I actually think she likes it. I suggest you focus on your own issues for once instead of worrying about everyone else.
  • Dimitri: I'm not sure that's possible. Oh, but that does remind me, I hear the knights wanted to hold a joint training session.
  • Felix: Ugh. Forget it. You'll never change. I'd tell you to stop brooding so much, but I'd be wasting my breath.
  • Dimitri: I cannot afford to lose this war, Felix. I must protect the Kingdom. I must avenge the fallen. Each day, we draw ever closer to those who pulled the actual strings. I've already punished any who knew of the plan and did nothing, as well as a number of middle-rank conspirators... But it isn't enough. There are still those who must answer for this crime with their lives.
  • Felix: You are a book with one chapter and no ending. What will you do when you actually have this revenge of yours?
  • Dimitri: I don't know. But if I can quell their grief—and their hate—it will be enough.
  • Felix: Ugh.
  • Dimitri: Do you hate me, Felix? After all, I saw Glenn die. I watched it and could do...nothing. His end lies on my shoulders.
  • Felix: That's enough. I don't hate you, OK? You weren't responsible for any of that. They didn't die for your sake. They made their own choices of their own free will. Don't be so conceited.
  • Dimitri: But surely they didn't want to die. Yet they did so to protect me. Me. I am undeserving of such sacrifice.
  • Felix: I told you to quit brooding and eat. Your food's going to rot if you wait any longer.
  • Dimitri: Yes, of course...

A Support[]

  • Dimitri: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, but I swear I will avenge you. Please just wait a little longer. I will uncover who drove you to your deaths, no matter the cost.
  • Felix: Dimitri.
  • Dimitri: Gle—Oh, Felix. It's you. I'm sorry you had to see that.
  • Felix: After 20 years, I've seen all of you there is to see. Everyone else is asleep—you know that, right? So why are you locked up here in the chapel? Also, what's with the mumbling?
  • Dimitri: I suppose there's little sense in hiding it from you... I suffer from a kind of...waking dream. I see them. I see the people who died on that day, at all hours light and dark. "If the Empire was involved in that incident... If the emperor stood by and gave tacit consent..." "Then give to them the same end. Gouge out their hearts and cleave their heads from their shoulders." Those are the words the dead scream at me.
  • Felix: When did this start?
  • Dimitri: It's been six years. But I began hearing their voices four years ago, during my first battle. I recognized the enemy general as a man I had seen in Duscur. When I removed his head, the voices...cheered. They laughed. It was as if a terrible pain had finally been lifted from them.
  • Felix: I think I get what's happening here. Look, do you really think your father and Glenn and everyone else would be torturing you like that? You're the one who's doing this, Dimitri. Not them. You.
  • Dimitri: Even if that were true, I can never forgive myself.
  • Felix: Believe me, I know. But it's your job to lead. If you lose your path, you'll take everyone else down with you. So try to keep that whole "removing their heads" thing in check, yeah? We can just call it our little secret.
  • Dimitri: Well then, are you offering to let me unburden my heart to you when the time calls for it?
  • Felix: Ugh.
  • Dimitri: You're the only reason I haven't descended into utter savagery, you know. So just as Loog had Kyphon and my father had Rodrigue... I would ask that you continue to be my right-hand man.
  • Felix: Right-hand man, huh? I like the sound of that.
  • (screen fades to black.)
  • Dimitri: What are you doing?!
  • Felix: As your new right-hand man, my first act is to haul my restless king back to bed where he belongs.
  • Dimitri: This is absurd! My feet are dragging on the floor!
  • Felix: It's your own fault for being so tall, you sack of muscle.
  • Dimitri: Heh. Say, do you remember how I once carried you in this way when you twisted your ankle?
  • Felix: Yeah, turns out lugging folks around is good training—so just cram it and let me finish my workout already.
  • Dimitri: Yes, of course. Please, carry on.

With Dedue[]

  • Dimitri: Now then, I'd like to hear opinions on the proposed tactics. Personally, I believe it best to gather our forces and attack the stronghold directly, but—
  • Felix: Ha! Of course the boar wants to rush in headlong. Using a small force to take out the enemy's base of operations is a far better idea.
  • Dedue: ...
  • Felix: Do you have something to say, or are you just going to stand there glaring at me?
  • Dedue: I have nothing to add, no.
  • Felix: So you're saying you have no thoughts on it whatsoever? You don't even agree or disagree—just purely, blissfully neutral.
  • Dimitri: Enough, Felix. Leave Dedue be and tell me more about this idea of yours.
  • Felix: We don't need to kick down the front door here. Sneaking in with a small force and burning their food stores will be more than enough.
  • Dimitri: Interesting. We'd miss a chance to look their supplies, but it would free up our main force for other matters. Still, it won't be easy to slip past their patrols. I'd best take my personal troops and—
  • Felix: Allow me to take on the role. I trust that'll be satisfactory.
  • Dedue: Heh.
  • Dimitri: Right then. Now that we've solidified our strategy, let's break for a bit.

(Dimitri exits.)

  • Felix: OK, what is your problem? You've been giving me that look ever since we came in here. You clearly have something on your mind, so spit it out.
  • Dedue: It's good to have you with us.
  • Felix: Huh?
  • Dedue: Few can debate His Majesty without hesitation or ill intent. Our war council proceeded smoothly as a result.
  • Felix: You make me sound like some kind of troublemaker. I don't disagree just for the thrill of it, you know.
  • Dedue: You don't say.
  • Felix: Dimitri's always had a reckless streak. Who knows what kind of mess he'd drag us into if someone wasn't around to stop him. The guy would gladly throw his life away for someone else given half the chance.
  • Dedue: You have a point.
  • Felix: His death would mean the destruction of both Faerghus and the church. So when I try to protect him, what I'm really doing is protecting the Kingdom.
  • Dedue: Spoken like the Shield of Faerghus.
  • Felix: What's with the smile? I told you, if you've got something to say, just say it!
  • Dedue: I know you spoke up for my sake as well. I'm grateful for it.
  • Felix: Yeah, well, just doing what's expected. I mean, we're...you know. Brothers in arms and all that.

(Dimitri enters.)

  • Dimitri: Apologies for the wait. I trust we're ready to reconvene? You two seemed to be having a lively discussion. May I ask what it was about?
  • Dedue: Of course, Your Majesty. Felix was just saying—
  • Felix: I was saying how much of a fool you are. Now come, we have more important things to discuss.

  • Ashe: Felix? What are you doing here?
  • Felix: I had business in the capital. Speaking of, I hear you're that boar's knight now.
  • Ashe: Boar... Oh, you mean His Majesty?
  • Felix: Yeah. Him. You must have it rough with a tiresome man like that leading you.
  • Ashe: I think you're exaggerating, Felix. I wouldn't call him that at all. In fact, he even does our jobs for us sometimes!
  • Felix: See, that's exactly why he's such a problem. You should steal your job back from him once in a while. Use force if you have to.
  • Ashe: Felix, are you...
  • Felix: Anyway, the castle has certainly changed in the past... what, two years since he took over? For one thing, there are many more commoners among the knights.
  • Ashe: You have a good eye to notice that! But yes, His Majesty says there are pros and cons to it. For example, knights from noble families tend to be more polite and respectful. There were a lot scuffles and misunderstandings int he beginning, but things seem to be calming down now.
  • Felix: And which are you, noble or commoner? You became a knight on Lord Lonato's recommendation, right?
  • Ashe: Yeah, my situation is kind of... strange. I'm almost stuck right in the middle. Still, I feel like there are things only I can do precisely because I don't fit into either box. But whenever I'm in real trouble, His Majesty and Dedue always come to my aid, so that's good!
  • Felix: Dedue as well, huh?
  • Ashe: Yep. Even the knights accept him as one of us now. No one's a better cook or more skilled with their hands. And he's a proper demon on the battlefield, to boot! I hope to be more like him someday.
  • Felix: Please, no. One of him is more than enough. Especially that blind loyalty. Imitate that and you'll only end up throwing away your life on the battlefield.
  • Ashe: Aw, are you worried about us? That's sweet, Felix. I always had the impression you care for your friends, and now I know I'm right!
  • Felix: Excuse me?
  • Ashe: I mean, sure, the things you say are pretty harsh, but you can't bring yourself to actually abandon someone. You always so much concern for me, and for Dedue, and even for His Majesty!
  • Felix: Yeah, well, it'd be more work for me if anything happened to you. That's all. I'm busy enough as it is. Can't afford to take on more issues.
  • Ashe: Well then, I'll do my best not to add to your problems.
  • Felix: I doubt you'll need to try that hard. You do a decent enough job of supporting folks already. So keep up the good work, and maybe I'll lend you a hand someday. You know, if you need it.
  • Ashe: Thanks, Felix. I'll be counting on you.

  • Sylvain: What were you thinking, sticking your nose into some soldiers' fight?!
  • Felix: ...
  • Sylvain: You have a lot of growing up to do if you're still throwing yourself in the middle of random brawls like that. Keep this up, and House Fraldarius's reputation will be rolling in the mud with you. Not to mention how it reflects poorly on His Majesty, considering he's the one who made you a duke.
  • Felix: Ngh, I know all that.
  • Sylvain: Do you? Because you don't look like a man who's achieved some fantastic new enlightenment.
  • Felix: This is rich coming from you. I liked it better when you used to take the heat.
  • Sylvain: Are you kidding? You were always the one being scolded when we were kids.
  • Felix: Only because you were a half-wit who kept dragging me into your ludicrous schemes.
  • Sylvain: Was that how it was? Whatever you say. But tell me, what's got you swinging your fists around this time?
  • Felix: Nothing specific. I just couldn't back down after getting involved.
  • Sylvain: You really need to start being more careful. Look, you've even got a bruise going. Who knows what would happen to Faerghus if we lost you.
  • Felix: I won't say you'd be fine without me, but you do know I could fall in battle any day now, right?
  • Sylvain: Bite your tongue, Felix. Just think for two seconds. What would happen to Faerghus, and to His Majesty if you died? He's got too much on his plate already, yet he insists on doing everything himself. War with the Empire, battles outside Fódlan, governing the Kingdom, reforming the entire social structure of pretty much everything... If he didn't have you at his side, he'd fall flat on his face.
  • Felix: You speak as though you have no stake in this whatsoever. We're in the same situation. One of these days, you'll inherit the title of Margrave Gautier. Are you ready for that?
  • Sylvain: I know, I know. Trust me, I am very well aware—which is why I always act with the utmost integrity!
  • Felix: You're the complete opposite of integrity. Though I suppose you've been attempting to shake some of your old habits recently.
  • Sylvain: You know, it wouldn't kill you to pat me on the back every once in a while.
  • Felix: You're like a baby that just learned to walk. A pat on the back would only knock you over. You can try to make up for your past actions all you want, but that kind of thing isn't easily swept aside. The sooner you realize that, the better.
  • Sylvain: Heh. That tongue of yours is as sharp as ever, I see. Never change, Felix.
  • Felix: I guess I was a touch reckless this time. As much as I hate to admit it. So I'll give you that much.

  • Felix: Tell you what?
  • Sylvain: About the fight you got into the other day with those soldiers.
  • Felix: Oh. That. Don't worry, I won't do it again.
  • Sylvain: One of my men told me the whole story of what actually went down. Apparently, one of your soldiers was mocking the heir of House Gautier...who just so happens to be me. Then he started getting into it with everyone else, which is when you decided to jump in.
  • Felix: Worst decision of my life. But like I said, I'm done with all that. I only stepped in because I thought it was my responsibility to make my men see sense. But my fists tend to move faster than my brain, as I'm sure you know.
  • Sylvain: I'm very well aware. Still, I'm curious why you didn't tell me everything right away.
  • Felix: Because he said some really nasty stuff about you. I didn't want your delicate ears dropping off in horror.
  • Sylvain: OK, now I'm even more curious... Anyway, sorry for tearing into you without knowing the full story.
  • Felix: No, I'm the one who should apologize. I can't let personal life influence business, even if it does concern you.
  • Sylvain: You shouldn't worry about it. People speaking poorly about me is something of a regular occurrence. And honestly, I deserve every last bit of it. I was a real scoundrel in my younger days. Caused a whole lot of people a whole lot of headaches. That kind of talk isn't your fault or your soldiers' fault. The blame lies squarely with the man I used to be.
  • Felix: So why didn't you do something about that man when you were younger?
  • Sylvain: It was just... I had to be that way, you know? I had to play the part of the flippant, carefree rogue because... Anyway, look. I know I'm a real piece of work, but that's just me being me.
  • Felix: Fine. Perhaps you do deserve to be made fun of. But I still won't stand it coming from a bunch of curs who don't know a single thing about you. You may not have the title of margrave yet, but you still make yourself pretty useful. I've seen how you've helped the boar, and... I guess how you help me, too.
  • Sylvain: Wow, Felix. That's...wow. Hoo boy, I think someone's cutting onions in here.
  • Felix: Be quiet! Can't you listen to someone for two seconds without opening your fat mouth and completely ruining the moment?! You always have been too smart and too loud for your own good, even if no one can match you in military tactics or domestic affairs. It's like you said: We've got problems piling up both inside and outside of the Kingdom. But with you around, we might just be able to see our way clear of it.
  • Sylvain: That's a lot of problems to pile on one person. Especially when he isn't half as great as you're implying. I mean, I might be, say, seven percent more cunning than you? But that's pretty much it. If we really want to be useful to Faerghus and Dimitri, we need to work together so we can balance out each other's weaknesses.
  • Felix: I suppose that's true. In which case, I guess I'm counting on you. I may even...need you. Maybe. Besides, I'd be stuck with nothing but miserably dour folks without you around. I'm not sure I could handle it.

  • Felix: How did you know?
  • Rodrigue: Because I've been through the same thing with them any number of times.
  • Felix: Southern soldiers are unskilled, but they make up for it with sheer numbers. I need their cooperation, yet they refuse to negotiate. And I have no idea how to convince them.
  • Rodrigue: Yes, I imagine they're dealing with their own issues.
  • Felix: And what issues would those be?
  • Rodrigue: When they refused to send reinforcements for the invasion of Sreng, it was because the lords were embroiled in a succession dispute. If one house sent soldiers, the others would pounce on the opportunity to move against them. But mere letters could never have told you something like that.

  • Felix: Well, this is off to a grim start. So, what is it you want to talk about?
  • Rodrigue: I wanted to apologize for what I said about Glenn. It was ill put, and I'm sorry.
  • Felix: ...
  • Rodrigue: I should never have said such a thing in your presence.
  • Felix: If you're going to explain yourself, I suppose I can make the time to hear you out.
  • Rodrigue: Thank you. Then I will not mince words. I too was mortified by Glenn's death. Yet he perished a hero. He chose that life for himself, and he chose that death. He fought to protect the future of Faerghus— and his friend— until his dying breath. As his father, I felt I had to acknowledge that choice.
  • Felix: And how are you so sure it was his choice? Neither of us really knows what he was thinking. The boar might have an inkling, but all he goes on about is how he caused Glenn's death.
  • Rodrigue: You're right— I don't know for certain. But I know what I would've done had I been there. And you, Felix? What would your choice have been? Would you have abandoned His Majesty to save yourself? Or would you have chosen to fight until death claimed you? I myself would've safeguarded His Majesty at all costs. I know that it wasn't in Glenn's nature to flee either.
  • Felix: It's always about courage or cowardice with you. I wouldn't have chosen anything. When your life's on the line, you don't have time to think about that stuff— only act. I would have fought with my own will, in whatever way I thought best— and I would've made sure we both survived.
  • Rodrigue: You always want to have it both ways. Still, I take pride in that determination of yours. Had I been there, I doubt I could've summoned the resolve to strive for such a victory. More likely, I would've been satisfied merely to die in the defense of my liege.
  • Felix: I can understand that way of thinking. In fact, I always have. But I still couldn't stomach Glenn's death being glorified.
  • Rodrigue: And I'm sorry for that, Felix. Truly.
  • Felix: It's all right. And...I'm glad we talked. Also, you said we shouldn't leave regrets behind, so... I'm sorry too. For hitting you back then, I mean. I'm sorry...Father.
